we are moving in on mon (no set time), seller is moving out on sunday (no set time). i just called lipa to have service changed into our name as of monday. i asked if the seller has called to terminate service and she said, 'yes on friday the 13th.' we are closing on thursday but she is not vacating the house until sunday. i guess she is expecting us to take over the account as of friday and foot the bill for her weekage usage. problem is the pool is opened and needs the electric.
what should we do?

Call your Lawyer for closing and explain to him what is going on they will advise you properly.

this is absurd. SCWA said she is cancelling service as of friday as well. they told me that if we don't change service into our name as of friday then we have to pay for a reconnect. not for nothing, we were more than accomdating to let her stay 3 days after closing, the least she could do is pay for her own f**king water and electric for those 3 days.

EXACTLY. i would not hesitate to leave her w/o power for the weekend (it was HER decision) BUT as mentioned we need it for the pool. she probably doesn't want to pay for the pool to run and knowing that it has to, assumes that we will just foot the bill for ALL the power and water.
i left a message for our attorney and our agent. it s u c k s that i can't just go right to the source and tell her cheap a s s to change the termination date.

is she paying you 'rent' for those 3 days?
If so, she may consider the electric costs to be included as a part of the rent...
The house legally becomes yours on Friday right? Makes sense that she'd cancel on that date.

house is legally ours as of thurs. she is paying us a per diem fee equal to our per diem interest. they even fought us on that.
our agent said that she is surprised that she is termintaing service on friday. she is going to call the listing agent. DH says to let it go and change into our name as of friday. i could care less about the measly money, it's the principal.
