What would you do?

What would you do?

So my parents gave F and myself a option. They will throw us a e-party in a restaurant, or give us the $1500 they intended to spend on the party.

Here's what I was thinking, one of my bridesmaids has a great backyard (we live in a apt) and would be more than happy having a party there. FH family lives out of state SO it would be my assumption that they would probably not come for the e-party. I wanted to have a BBQ for our friends (that we would pay for) at my friend's house, and take the money my parents offered.

What do you think?

the e-party is a great way for your families to meet, but if you don't think that FH's family will come then just a BBQ with friends to celebrate is a good idea...and having that money to put towards the wedding would be a huge plus!

Ok I don’t mean to sound all metrialistic…butttt…how many people would you be inviting to the e-party because if you are considering putting the $1500 to help you with the wedding, you might get more money from gifts to help you with the wedding as oppose to just taking the 1500.

Don’t no one go jumping on me for that response…just talking about reality with the money side of it

def true...i didn't even think about that...but FH and I had a relatively small e-party and got more money than that...so it might actually be worth having the party....

unless you really don't want anything fancy and prefer to just have a 'chill' celebration with your friends...

Not materialistic at all....actually a great point. I thought of that too....I think my parents thinking would be that the $1500 would be more than what we would make in gifts. I also did want more of a 'chill' party...and my parents vowed to never have another BBG for more than 10 people again!! They'd rather spend more money and have less aggravation.

it really depends on what you want to do...Do you want an actual eparty, bc 1500 might not be enough for even a small party (my eparty was in a local hall and was about 2000)

It might be a better idea to just use the money towards your wedding...It will be a big help when it ocmes down to it...BUT if you think you would make the money you spent on an eparty back in gifts then the eparty is definately worth it.

hmm if you plan on inviting a lot of people, then you might end up making more than 1500 if people give you money...if you arent inviting a lot, take the money and run!!!! haha

ita - if you want the party just do it, if not then i would take the money and run. but eparties are more than you think. We have a budget of $3k and went way over. Didn't do anything fancy either, just had a local deli caterer buffet style, no music, but between alcohol and the site fee, we paid quite a bit.

I think I'm going to take the $$$ and have a friend party in the summer. Just buy a few heros, hotdogs and hamburgers and a couple of kegs and we are good to go!!
