if one of your wedding checks bounced? One of my 2nd cousins gave us a check for our wedding & a week after depositing it it came back NSF Anyway, I emailed her to let her know - obviously this is an embarrassing thing to have to tell someone - but she had responded right away w/ 'oh we've been having trouble w/our bank & they took the mortgage out twice this month...give me your address again & I'll make sure you guys get the gift you were supposed to.' this was back on 8/31 - which as you can see is already just about a month now. I sent a 2nd email a few days ago & tried to play it off like we've been having problems w/our mail & just wanted to make sure your check didnt get lost...no response. It's bad enough for friends to bounce a check on you but you never expect this from family. Has this ever happened to anyone & if so how did you handle it?? TIA for your help!

Re: What would you do...
That happened to mutual friends of mine. One couple was getting married and another friend gave them a check which bounced.
I believe they recirculate the checks as long as the payer doesnt do a stop payment.
Anyway, the 2nd time it went in, it didnt bounce.
If they havent wb to your email, it might be that they're feeling a little bit awkward about the check bouncing and they might not have the money to give you the check because their mortgage was debited twice from their acct. i can imagine that being quite a lot of money. Give it a little bit longer.
If it was my family, yes i'd be a little bit hurt, but I dont think i'd say anything else from the 2nd email.

Re: What would you do...
I'll let you know after this weekend--I haven't deposited my checks yet...
But after mentioning it twice, I think you have no choice but to let it go.

Re: What would you do...
We had two bounce -- my step sister's and a friend of my dad's. My dad told his friend point blank that their check bounced. He's given $500 to each of their 4 kids who have been married (including one who divorced 3 months later and didn't return presents) so he had no qualms about getting on them about it. They just sent us another check.
I told my stepfather about my step sister's and he told her, but we are not expecting another check. I actually felt really bad because the check was for $50 and that's a lot of money for her, and if she got charged $20 or $25 for the bounced check, that's half of it already. I'd rather she not give us money when I know she needs it so much.
In your case, I agree with the previous poster who suggested to let it go. When you send you thank you, just thank her for her gift, whether or not you ever get one.

I would let it go. She probably doesn't have the money but doesn't know what to say. We had a check returned but the person came to our house and gave cash before we even knew it was going to be returned.

Re: What would you do...
we had this happen with a check from our e-party. It was from one of my bosses. I was charged 2 $25 fees (total $50) for the bouncing fees. I let it go at first but when she didn't mention it i wanted to make sure she knew in case other checks bounced. Her husband had just started a new business and he had written the check out so I wasn't sure if she knew about it. I was worried this might not have been the only one.
When i told her she said the bank started a new system and everything was supposed to be fixed and no one should have been charged (unfortunately i have a different bank). It was to have been corrected within the week. Luckily i knew one of the managers at MY bank and they refunded my $50 fee. I ended up going to HER bank and making sure the check could be cashed and then after wards just deposited the cash in my account.
I plan on cashing the checks from the wedding this way (at their respective banks if possible) in order to avoid this again. I mean $50 is a lot of money and if I didn't know the bank mgr I would have been out. It ***** but sometimes you have to speak up.. Good Luck
