What would you do?

What would you do?

1) Stay in your current position that you've been in for a few years, knowing that you will most likely get promoted in a few months, but for now, have a smaller raise with a bit of a larger increase later,

OR

2) Change companies, probably in same position as now, but make the same amount you'd probably make once you got the promotion in situation #1

changing companies only opens up the door for disaster unless you're super miserable at your current job now

Depends on the stability of the new company. In this industry, you know things can change VERY quickly.

Beaides raise, what other benefits do you like/dislike? Working with FH, etc?

I would say stay with #1 unless you are miserable. There is stability there and more chance of advancement in the future.

Option # 1. In this time of employment uncertainty, being lowman on the totem pole is risky.

I agree with the other ladies. Unless you are super happy at your job and see better opportunity at the new place, i'd stay put for the promotion. For similar salary and same responsibilities, it wouldn't be worth it for me to move. A good point someone said was that unfortunately, if the new company were to downsize, usually seniority prevails.

If you take the promotion at the old job, when you eventually look to leave, that should give you opportunity to make even more if you switch jobs - bc you said that you would make more in your current position somewhere else.

Just a thought.

is the other company a better company and therefore a greater opportunity? if there isn't a definitive reason to jump ship, i'd stay put in this market.
