Ok, So we have been working on hotel blocks for about a month now, I have some concerns, and I'm wondering what you ladies would do...
The hotel we plan to book gave us the room rate of $139per suite (it is a suite only facility). This includes a full deluxe breakfast for all the guest. On their website there is rate of $119.20 per room, this is non-refundable.
I know it is only a matter of $20, but I requested the non-refundable rate & terms, and the woman agreed via e-mail when the I requested to have to contracts altered to reflect this the woman back tracked and said she can not do that.
Would you go ahead and block the rates (you are financially responsible for 50% of the rooms, ie: you block 20 only 8 rooms are booked you have to pay for 2 additional rooms) ?
Or would you put information about the hotel on your wedding website and encourage guest to book the rooms through the website, well aware that the price could change from $119.20 to $159.

Re: What would you do? Hotel related
Ladies, any, all thoughts are appreciated! FH tells me to just make a decision. Am I being cheap with our guest money?

I'd find another hotel....aren't you supposed to pay less with a hotel block?

I say sign up with the hotel block. The reason I say that is because the hotel room block reservations are not GUARANTEED...as a guest, you can cancel your reservation at any time as long as it's within 24 or 48 hours. With the online non-refundable, your guests would be charged no matter what...
The price can refluctuate but I wouldn't want my guests to be forced to pay the online price --- plus what if they are lagging on booking and go online to find the rate is $219 closer to the wedding when it would be cheaper through the block.

I refused to block rooms at any hotel that would hold me responsible for any $$ in case someone decides to not take a room. Thta could run you a lot of money if people bail last minute on the room ya know? I would look into some other hotels first

This is also a good point I didn't touch on... can your guarantee be lower? My hotel block is $30 cheaper than the standard rate (they also had a non-refundable rate) but we don't have a minimum to pay for.

I agree - are there other hotels you could book at? I'd be verrryyy leery about a hotel that is giving you a higher price then the one posted online. I get that it's nonrefundable, but I feel like that says something about their business practices....

I would look at other hotels on 109. I would never book if I was responsible. You are giving them business!

My hotel wasnt less with a hotel block either. It was cheaper online if they pay in advance. I would just give them the hotel info if you are responsible for rooms not booked!
