Ok, so our wedding is almost 5 months away. We still have a very sizeable amount due towards the wedding. This does not include a honeymoon (which we have yet to book) or other incedentals that we are unsure what the cost will be (tux, FH wedding band etc). Combined together our personal savings accounts is more than enough to pay for all this but this was going to be our downpayment for a house. I know we will get money as gifs, and as my dad is not payinf for wedding he is giving a sizeable gift...
My question is this - would you deplete your savings account to pay for this or would you cut things out. Would you consider putting off your honey moon until you could afford it? I'm not sure what we should do its a tough decision...

hmm...is there things you could cut back on? like flowers or something?
i dont know that i would deplete my savings completely just for the wedding...maybe u can just take a weekend trip after the wedding and then save up so you can take a really honeymoon later in the year.

I don't think that I would deplete my savings either. I always try to keep at least 2 months income in our savings. If possible, try to cut back in some areas or compromise on some things. As far as a honeymoon is concerned, we are using our tax return lol. Its a nice amount of money you tend to forget about, maybe this could be an option for you. I don't know how quickly you usually get yours bck but its an option.

I wouldn't suggest depleting your personal savings account. Always good to have money for a rainy day. If you can cut back on some things that you wanted to have for your wedding. Figure out what is a necessary as oppose to what is wanted.

I would see if it could cut things out. Maybe you could get the most basic package for photos, video and DJ. Also you could consider a cruise for your HM or a weekend get away and go somewhere else six months later. What ever you do, I would try not to use all of your savings.

I would try to scale back on some things...but I wouldnt postpone the honeymoon. I would use the savings as a last case scenario and then replenish it with the wedding money...but defintely try to scale back first

Cut back!! I wouldn't drain your savings for the wedding. Savings are important for emergency situations too..what if you need a decent amount of money for an emergency?
Cut things out of your wedding...and if possible re-evaluate how you spend your money and see if you can cut out any unnecessary spending (such as bringing coffee from home instead of buying, etc)
thanks everyone - I think that I am going to try just to pay something each week and then at the end hopefully I will have to take only a little bit out of the savings....

good luck. I agree with the other girls.. try cutting back where you can. You can always go on a HM.... I would start by cutting back there. Flowers are an area where I am cutting back--- they just aren't that important to me. Limos aren't all that crazy necessary either.. I know some stuff is easier said than done but you are building a future with your husband.... one that will last a long time. Your wedding is one day--- one wonderful day because you are starting your lives together!

if you are expecting your dad to give you a good gift, maybe you can talk to him and see if he would like to cover your HM? so its one less thing u need to worry about now....

I'd cut back. If i depleted my savings acct I would freak out cuz if something unexpected happened I'd be screwed.

Nope, I wouldnt go into the downpayment money for the wedding. I would downsize on stuff, if it was between a honeymoon or house downpayment, i would pick the house $, a honeymoon can always be done after the wedding when $ is better with you guys.

def cut back theres a lot of ways you can do this... for instance w/ the florist, DJ, or even maybe your hall can work with you to cut out less options at CH or something.. def go on your honeymoon when you can, it doesnt have to be a grand thing, you can get an all inclusive package for a good amount of money depending on where you go, for example dominican republic i know people who have gone there all inclusive for a great price... good luck!

I'd cut back as much as possible, and try to delay the honeymoon a bit- that way you aren't stuck paying for it now

i would cut back - if you still need the money in the end - take some out of savings and than whatever money you get for the wedding add it for you DP
We put our HM on a 0apr credit card and will pay it with the money we get for our wedding - i can justify putting the HM on the credit card

Re: What would you do? (money issues)
hold off on the honeymoon..i mean.. its just a vacation.
would u rather hold off on LIVING in your OWN house with ur fh.. just to go on a 7 day vacation?? think about it lol
do NOT go into your downpayment funds.
im telling u right now.. this wedding will leave a sour taste in your mouth. i know mine will . theres no way im going to 'make back' what i spent. no1 ever does, unless your guests are insanely generous. lets face it, overall..ppl are cheap when it comes to spending money on some1 other than themselves.
100% cut backk. dont do something u will regret a day after ur wedding.
ur wedding is 5 hours. it comes and goes SOOO quick. dont be foolish.
