We are invited to a christening tomorrow. All weekend, Paul, DH and I have been a bit under the weather...sneezing, runny noses, congestion, sore throats, etc. Paul and DH even had a bit of a stomach bug.
The family that is hosting the christening has also been sick - only WORSE than we are. All the kids (there are 3, all under age 5) have been on antibiotics since Monday, and two of them had high fevers on Friday. I haven't called my friend to see how everyone is feeling today...but, based on this info, would you attend the christening??
I am so torn...this is a very close friend, and I'd hate to miss the special day. But, I am worried that Paul (or me and DH) will just get sicker, and that's the last thing I need this time of year!
I just don't know what to do, and I'm looking for some advice...
ETA: The party is being thrown in their house - not a restaurant. I'd almost feel better if it was out somewhere...but, at their house, I feel that there are probably so many germs there from the kids being sick, and the chances of us catching something would be more likely...

I wouldn't go Claud. Blame it on YOUR family being so sick lately. I am sure they'll understand.

Claud is there any way you can just swing by - maybe just you and drop off a gift - maybe have a cup of coffee? This flu/cold thing going around is no joke. I have had it going on three weeks now and all my husband keeps saying is - thank God the baby isnt' here yet....the congestion is as bad as day one, and I really think it's because I keep getting exposed to people that are just getting it. My immune system has no time to build itself up.
I am totally sure your friend would understand - and I bet she wouldn't want another three sick people around her newborn either!

I wouldn't bring Paul. I would try to just stop by to wish them well and see the baby.

Re: What would you do??
I personally would go, even for just an hour or so. Maybe say Paul is being fussy and seems to still not be feeling so well.
If its so close of a friend, I really think its worth the 'showing your face'. Im very big on being somewhere unless Im dead I keep running on empty whether I have a cold, fever or headache, 'I'm fine'..but thats crazy too.
Thats just me. There's no right or wrong. I just think big occassions like that, and if youre not contagious or bedridden, you can make it even for a little bit. (just thinking of the friend who wont have your special family there )
Ive gotten angry with John a few times where he felt 'under the weather' and didnt want to go some place, so its definately a different thing with different people.
I hope you can stop by for a little, and I hope you all feel MUCH MUCH BETTER VERY SOON!
and since her kids are on meds, they shouldnt be contagious. and since Paul is not feeling 'himself' , he might not mingle with them too much after all.
Let us know what you decide.

Re: What would you do??
I just ran into a similiar situation. Patrick was sick w/ a sinus infection & he had his best buddies b-day party. I didn't want to get the other kids sick so I went & dropped off the present & stayed for a while. (the Mommy & I are good friends)
I personally would be ticked if I went to a friends childs christening & not only are they sick but so are some of the other kids. Especially around the holiday!! I'm sure your friend will understand if your hubby & Paul stayed home from the party. Maybe just go to the church (stay in the back) & just say I'd feel better if we stayed away from the party. You (or worse Paul) could get sicker!!

That's a tough one. I would try and go fro a bit, just to drop in and say hi. I am sure if you told her why you weren't going to stay, she'd understand. It is holiday time and not very fun to be sick!
why not leave Paul and Jeff home and go on your own...for a little...

Re: What would you do?? UPDATED
Update - well, the wind up was...we just went to the church ceremony, not the party. NO ONE with kids was going to the party afterwards, b/c their oldest son STILL had fever yesterday and this morning, so no one in their right mind was going to risk their kid/kids getting sick right before the holidays.
Thanks for everyone's advice...I am glad I chose to play it conservative...I don't care how close your friends are...if they are true friends, they understand. I know my friend did, and if the tables were turned, I would expect her to have made the same decision, b/c I wouldn't want her kids to get sick either!

Awe, that was very nice Claud
WOW, he still has a fever And youre right, a good friend should understand, and being that she did tell everyone about his fever shows that she is a sincere and good person.
Good decision
ETA: YOu should see how many moms come into the babysitting at work, and their kids are SICK SICK SICK and they say 'oh, he's fine, oh its allergies, oh he's not contagious' and then the kids tell us themselves that they are sick

I wouldn't go. If you were REALLY close to the family I would definately suggest the possibility of dropping in to just say hi and congrats, and give a gift. If you're not that close I definatley wouldn't go! Good Luck!

how awful...that they drag them out...when they probably only want to be in bed...
although if I get a bad allergy attack...I tell DH that I'm sick...

I know what you mean Anna, we have parents at my day care and everything is allergies. The kids always tell us the truth. I have parents who try to bring kids in the next day after I have sent them home with a fever over 102. Vomiting ,diarrhea , pink eye you name it they will still say they are fine. Sometimes they even bring in Dr's notes Now I kno the Dr's don't do culture samples so how do you know it's from teething when the child's entire class is out with a stomach virus.
