If you were an OOT guest/member of BP, would you prefer a welcome dinner party with drinks on New Years Eve at the hotel youre staying at or a New Years Day brunch? The wedding is on Jan. 2nd. I'm trying to figure out what's the best option.
thanks girls!

I think a brunch is better.

I like the brunch idea too but I wouldn't want FH's family and my friends to have nothing to do on New Years Eve since it's their first time to LI and they don't know the area. so it's hard to decide...

i wouldn't want to be stuck in a hotel room on new year's eve. if you dont do the dinner that night at least get everybody together for drinks and traditional new year's eve stuff.

New year's eve... u will have too much to do the day of the brunch... save that so u can relax and unwind before your big day..... I think u might feel too rushed if you do the brunch and that could last til 2-3 before they all leave and then u still might have a lot to do....

See i wouldn't want to be in a hotel room either... I can't get everyone together for drinks AND do a New years brunch...that would just be too much right before the wedding. ahh hard decision

i think if we were to do the brunch it would be earlish like 10-1 so people could still go into NYC for the day if they wanted to sight-see and had to leave NY right after the wedding.

I would say dinner and drinks on new years eve would be more fun and also gives you a day to relax and get stuff done.

I vote for the brunch, with providing info on some local places they could spend NYE. Not that you would have to be there or pay, but where they could hang out that night. A lot of places do like $50-100 food/drink, maybe you could look around places by the hotel and spread this option to guests who may be interested? Some OOT may want to do the whole city thing on NYE if they never experienced it, but may feel they cannot if you hold a dinner around the hotel. Would it be a late dinner, so you are together at midnight or more a dinnertime party?

yes, it would be a late dinner like 9pm- 1 am on NYE at the hotel they are all staying at if i were to do one and the hotel has a bar too.

Re: What would you prefer
question: since new years is two days, or rather two nights, before the wedding do you think people will be coming in on new years eve (12/31) or the day before the wedding/new years day (1/1)??\\
If you think most will be there on new years eve I would do the dinner - for the same reason as you said, you want everyone to have something to do!
If you think most will be coming new years day I would do the brunch.

I vote for the dinner bc I'd rather have nothing to do on New Years Day than nothing to do on NYE. If you go with the brunch, I think this is a great idea to suggest places they can go on NYE. Also, the brunch might be more cost effective since I'd think there would be less alcohol served.

Re: What would you prefer
I guess I should just see if most people will be in for NYE and if they would want to do their own thing or not. I figured FH's family wouldn't want to deal with NYC craziness that night and would prob like a dinner party however some of my younger friends may want to do their own thing and would just prefer a brunch the next day. I guess it's hard to please everyone :( i just want everyone to have a great weekend!

Re: What would you prefer
I would prefer the NYE dinner. And like some of the other girls said, you would probably have to do some running around the day before your wedding to do some last minute things. and ii think it would be fun to spend NYE with friends/family that you do not see often....

Re: What would you prefer
I think it would depend on how independent and industrious your out-of -town guests are. Would they be able to find their own entertainment on New Years Eve, or will they be sitting there completely alone in a hotel room? On the one hand, if they have family/friends in NY that they might be eager to share the Eve with, you won't want to make them feel obligated to do something wiht you. On the other hand, if they don't know anyone, you probably should set a little something up so they're not sitting alone in a hotel room.
