Re: What's a bustle???

its when they fold the train of the back of the dress in to itself so that you don't have to worry about carrying that thing with you as you walk and dance. lol. the most common forms of bustles are the french bustle where the fabric from the train folds up into itself.

Usually it depends on the type of gown you have. If you don't want a train you should tell them when your trying on the dresses. Have you started looking for your dress yet? How far along in the process are you?

some trains are too long to leave open so thats why. BUt some dresses dont have a train or a very short train.

Here is a thread where girls posted their bustles and some dideven before and after pics to give you an idea. Also you'll see many different styles of bustles

Thanks so much for posting this, I had no idea! Here I am thinking 'I need to find a dress with no train so I get around' I had no idea this is what people did. I'm glad now when I go dress shopping if I fall in love with something with a longer train, it won't be a problem

oh yeah dont even worry. If you look at the pics in that thread, theres even girls who didnt have a long train but still did a bustle. Its annoying having a long train so you'll want to put it up the moment youre able to lol

Ok now I have another question lol, if you have the thing down during the ceremony, who puts up the bustle for you? the maids? will they know how?

depends. You can have your MOH come with you to one of your fittings so she knows how its done. When i was a bm and went with my friend to her final fitting they showed me and her matron of honor how to do it. Or have a family member see how its done

Or a DOC would know how to do, bridal attendant can help.

However, i did my own lol. I had a 5 point bustle that as very simple to do, basically all the points were in a certain order on my dress and all you had to do was match it straight on with buttons. SO while taking pics i bustled my own dress.
