I'm in one of my best friend's weddings this year. Her sister is the MOH and planning the whole shower. She went and booked everything without consulting any of us. She wants $430 each (there are 5 of us), and that's just the shower, not counting a gift or the other incidentals you need for a shower. I have ELEVEN other weddings before my own. Is it rude to cut them off at the $430? Is it also rude to give my friend a card saying that the shower is her gift? Should I get a small gift in addition? I really can't afford to get her a nice gift like I normally would a good friend. Help me!!

Re: What's proper shower etiquette?
I would not contribute to something I had no part in planning. Its crazy that they ddint ask you first. I would say something.

Re: What's proper shower etiquette?
What makes the situation worse is that they booked it in February and didn't tell us until just now, after the invites went out. So it's too late to make them change it. I knew we were going to have to contribute but I just didn't think that much.

You can still get her something small but special. I would tell the MOH that you can't afford to chip it for a joint gift because the shower exceeded your budget. You can get her some night gowns, or a honeymoon kit (beach tote, sunscreen, bathing suit, flip flops, books/mags, nightgown,etc)...I'm sure your friend will love anything that you get her.

Re: What's proper shower etiquette?
First of all I think what this girl did to you is RUDE and unacceptable!!!! You had no input in anything and she wants that much money from you?????????? THE BALLS!!!!!!!!! I feel awful you don't want to screw your friend which I totally understand but at the same time if you don't have it you can't give.....I would just let the person know that she should've consulted with you and all of the other girls first and I would only give what I could.....($300 sounds reasonable) then I would get her something from her registry. But of course this is what I would do. It's your call. You poor thing, people can be such idiots these days.....no class I tell ya..... XOXOXOXO Kitty
