My fiance and I never even considered using one, but it sounds like a lot of you are using travel agents to book your honeymoons.... Are we missing out on something here?

Re: What's the benefit of using a travel agent?
They can sometimes get better deals on packages than on the internet. We did our own research first on internet then played one TA against the other to see who would get the best package for the best price.

One of the TA won. FH had 6 TAs working for him. He told them they had 48 hours to get him the best deal. He started from a package he found online.
He did not tell any of them though that he was working with other TAs.

Isn't there travel insurance when you use one too?
I would only use one if I was going somewhere new and didn't know anything about it.....

we looked online and through a travel agent - the travel agent beat the best we could find for our resort we wanted plus it was a better room
never used a travel agaent before but it saved us about $2000 -3000 from what we saw on the internet

Re: What's the benefit of using a travel agent?
We bought travel insurance since we are going to the Carribeans in August and the insurance was better than online. Sometimes online insurance is only for rebooking at later time. They won't credit you for your trip. It's like a voucher. Through our TA, if trip is cancelled, emergency, etc. trip will be reimbursed. Make sure you understand what insurance you are buying.
Usually package deals with TAs are much cheaper for destinations.
For regular flights, etc. we usually buy airplane tickets online.

Re: What's the benefit of using a travel agent?
I used a travel agent, even though I like to plan a lot of myself on my own. A few benefits, from my experience:
1) better price... we're going to Disney World, and I guess TA's buy in 'bulk' and get a discounted price. I guess it's like shopping at Pathmark vs. Costco.
2) they'll fax our resort the morning of our honeymoon (day after the wedding... I'm sure we won't have time to do this ourselves) to remind them that we'll be there on our honeymoon.
3) I did buy Travel's Insurance
4) I keep getting mail from my TA with interesting things we can do on our honeymoon.
5) They'll book all of our reservations for dinner, events, etc.
6) GOD FORBID anything goes wrong with our reservation, I have a contact person here on LI (they'll give their cell #'s before we leave) who can fight my battles. (don't feel like arguing with front desk staff on my honeymoon if they mess something up... but that will NOT happen). Just peace of mind.
I used In and Out Travel (or Dream Destinations - same company). They're a vendor on here, and you can get $100 off. Actually, they matched another TA's price, so I don't know if they'll also give me the $100 off. I hope so, but I haven't checked yet.
That TA also will arrange your honeymoon registry, if you choose to have one.
Hope this Helps! Good luck!

Re: What's the benefit of using a travel agent?
most of the time - better price
The know the business so they can make recommendations about which places to stay, visit, airlines to use, car rental to use etc...they will know about construction going on at hotels and other problems that aren't made public.
When you are vacationing or on a HM you don't want to deal with hassles and mistakes - if you go thru an agent the chances of that are less and if anything does go wrong, you call the agent and they will deal with it for you so you don't have to stand at the counter and get into a fight.
People in the industry (hotels, etc.) give agents a lot of respect because if there are any problems that agent will not recommend any clients to use them again because they don't want their clients to be unsatisfied...
It really works out for you in the end.
My dad is a travel agent so I know way too much about this first hand...I'll get off the soap box now

Ditto!! I love mine and highly recommend her. She's e-based so her overhead is minimal and her prices are awesome!
