with picking out dresses and ordering them? do you have like a mini party and go out and get the dresses? or do i just get measurements from everyone?? and how many months before the wedding should you do this?

You can do a mini party type thing to go and try them on. I had my sister, my mom , my two little SILs and my SMIL and we had a lot of fun.
They ordered them that day. My other SIL, whol ives out of state faxed her measurements to Macy's.

I'm taking my MOH only to save myself a major headache...I have 9 BM's so 9 opinions just is not good for the soul! Then, after I pick the dress, I'll have them go and get measured or they can send their measurements.

the thing with dresses is this: the more women involved, the more likely you are to have no one agree.
most info out there suggests that you and moh (and maybe your mom) pick out the dress(es).
i think every bride's situation is different. i would suggest that you take into consideration the height, weight, body-shape, likes, dislikes, and personalities of your bp in mind and decide what route would work best for YOU!
maybe you can narrow it down to a list of three dresses and then have them 'vote'.

my girls live scattered around the tri state are so i went first wuth my MOH and one BM and then took the others and showed them a few dresses the first liked. I thought it was easier with less people. It got done quicker and faster.

i did it a lil over a yr ahead of time and what i did was send everyone an email and asked if they were available on a certain date and then we all went to macys together and they all tried on the dress and got measured that day....it actually was relatively painless

im going to go with all or most of my bridal party - i know they will all wear anything but i want their opinion on it too. Im going to go about 10 months before (which im sure is plenty of time) i guess the general timeframe is about 6 months

i'm going in January/February for my august wedding. i'd like to have them ordered mid feb at the latest.
ETA: yes, i'm probably going to make a day out of it.
