What's the deal with tax?

What's the deal with tax?

Ok. The dj didn't charge us tax. We met with one photographer who kept emphasizing plus tax, this price plus tax. We met with some others who didn't mention anything about tax. So whats the deal? Does anyone know?

Did you pay cash for the DJ? I have heard of not paying tax if you pay cash. That is really interesting!

I think when vendors don't mention tax they usually add it on at the end. I think the only way you could avoid paying tax is if you pay cash and very few businesses do this anymore. Your best bet is to call the photog and ask him/her.

I believe tax is added on at the end. Its NY State law or some crap like that. The only way to get around it is if you pay cash, other than that they have to charge you the tax. i think it is just assumed that tax is additional so they dont bother telling you.

Some vendors also include tax in their package prices.

Well, I was told that there was no tax for entertainment by two different DJ's.

One photog. told me that if I pay cash, they'll 'include the tax in the price' (a more legal way of saying, give me cash - no tax).

make sure you always ask when you go visit vendors... when i went to visit Duet... all the prices said + tax , so i asked what would happen if i payed in cash, and he said he would give me a discount... my friend who is using Duet was with me, and never thought of asking and probably would have ended up payign the extra money if I didnt bring up the tax issue...

so far we are paying everyone in cash... (except the hall)

if vendors receive cash instead of checks & charge then there is no way the gov't can see that cash as use it as taxable income... I used to do freelance graphic design and got paid by check... i had to pay about 30-40% of what I made to taxes!! very upsetting!!! that is why getting paid cash is so much more preferable!

The photographer we met with yesterday also told me that if I paid in cash then we would save more than $200. So FI and I plan on paying in cash. I plan on asking the rest of the photographers we meet with.

I was informed by Sean @ Code Bleu, it is a NY State Law, that you can not be charged sales tax on entertainment...Therefore any band or dj will not charge you tax....Majority of everything else is taxable unless you can work a deal with your vendor...I have done so with some by paying strictly cash & they have eliminated the sales tax

I'm not paying tax for any of my vendors (except the hall) -- we are using cash for everything.

sometimes it's included in their cost. but cash works wonders, even at my car repair shop.
