What are the differences between 4D, 3D and 2D ultrasound?
2D ultrasound is the type of ultrasound that most people are familiar with. You see a 'slice' of the baby.
4D & 3D ultrasound are newer technologies that allow you to see your baby as he or she really looks. The difference between 3D and 4D ultrasound is like the difference between a still photo and video. With 3D ultrasound you get a still image of the baby, but with 4D ultrasound the 3D image is continuously updated; allowing you to see the baby's movements.
In other words, the 4th dimension is time, so with 4D ultrasound you get a 3D image with the added dimension of time.
4-D ultrasound is the highest ultrasound technology available, and when coupled with an experienced, certified ultrasound technician, will give you the best possible pictures of your baby.

The standard sonogram is 2D, you dont see depth. With a 3D you have the added dimension of depth, i.e., you can see the 'roundness' of your baby. 4D is 3D in motion. You can see the baby moving.
Besides seeing the baby so clearly, there are alot of clinical benefits to the 3D/4D ultrasound.

I was just wondering because there is a 3-D imaging center that anyone can go in and get 3-D pictures of the baby! I don't know if they offer 4-D here in North Carolina.

No... I'm not near either. I don't know where Denver is, and Salisbury is closer to Charlotte. I'm close to Raleigh. 3 hour difference. Oh well... Thanks for checking!

Also, Melissa has I found out no all places will do non-medical 3-D/4-D sonograms and many insurance companies will not pay for them unless there is a medical reason. And as we found out today if the baby is not in the perfect position you cannot get a good scan or image anyway. So you have to consider if it is worth $400+ when they cannot promise you a good shot.
