what's the going rate these days

for a secretary/receptionist/office assistant position? I am sending out my resume and don't know what to ask for hourly....any suggestions?

My last job was in Manhattan but I'm looking for something local now since I'm going for my masters at Queens College. I don't want to shoot too high and then get turned down, I know manhattan pays alot more so I don't want to be unreasonable.

Help ladies....

i was going to say that in the city its usually about $14-16 an hour. In queens though be prepared bc it goes down alot, many do pay between $8-10 an hour. Look for a big company that happens to have offices in queens, try long island city. Its going to be hard to find that in queens.

I think I might have to suck it up and go to manhattan. I was making $10/hour 10 years ago in queens....I guess it depends who you work for.

I think that 10-12 is the going rate for a receptionist maybe a little more with experience.

yeah thats what s*cks about working out of manhattan, you will get paid less. Find a job in manhattan that is the fastest to get to from queens, i know for me lexington is the first stop in the city with the train i take. At least this way it wont be that bad

Remember its all relative what you spend in commuting may actually work out to making 10 to 12 an hour anyway.
