What's the maximum # of readers you can have in a Catholic mass?

What's the maximum # of readers you can have in a Catholic mass?

I've already asked one friend to be a reader...

I have two more I'd like to ask, but that's not including anyone my FH would like to have. Then again, he's having 6 GM and a Jr. GM compared to my 5 BM, so I may steal the rights to having all the readers be 'my people'. There are just REALLY good friends I would like to honor by having them do a reading, but I want to make sure there's room for everyone.

Do you think the 'prayers' can be ready by two people, if necessary?

There are two readings for a mass; one reading for a ceremony

Sarah:
I think it is two. But then you also can pick people to bring up the communion and wine. Our priest told us to pick a total of 4 people (2 readers, 1 for communion and 1 for the wine)

2 readings. You can always have 1 reading read by 2 people.

well, since everyone has a different answer, you're probably best off checking with your Priest/Parish rectory.

do you have the book from PreCana?

there are two readings and tehn the prayer fo the faithful so we are having three readers total. And, as someone mentioned, you have the gifts. Our priest told us we can have 2-4 ppl bring up the gifts so we could have 7 ppl total involved in the ceremony. Hope that helps.

Sarah, I am havign LOTs of people involved in my Mass and there's many ways around it... the priest won't care as long as there's someone to do it. We have a lot of people we want to include, so here's how I'm doing it:

1st reading: 1 reader
Responsorial Psalm: 2 singers (singing the psalm as a duet)
2nd reading: 1 reader
Prayers of the Faithful: 2 readers (they will alternate the petitions
Gifts: 4 people (1 with bread, 2 with water and wine, 1 with basket of food/other items as a donation for the poor)
Communion: 2 friends of mine are Eucharistic ministers (they will present the wine, the priests (I'm having 2 of those too...lol. they will do the host)

I am also having several friends sing and play my music as well as a friend playing the bagpipes.

Hope this helps! I say as many as people as you can get involved, go for it! this helped me keep my BP small because i was able to include people in other ways

THere are 2 readings
The petitions at the prayer of the faithful you can split up - have one read some and another read the rest. You could always ask your priest if he minds if you have 3 or 4 either.
Offetory - bringing up the gifts.

Hope that helps

Great! Thank you!

I already asked a good friend to do a reading. think I want to have another good friend who I should have asked to be a BM do another reading. And a guy friend of mine do the Prayer of the Faithful. If my FH has anyone he wants to do a reading, I'll put two of them together for the prayer of the faithful.

Then for the gifts, I think we'll have one or two pairs of aunts and uncles from each side of our families who are still married to represent a long marriage from each side to bring up the gifts. I think that would be a nice touch!

Thanks for your help! I'm just afraid I'll have more participants than guests! lol

Our ceremony has two readers - one for the old testament, one for the new.

Our ceremony will have 3 readers...
1 Old Testament
2 responsorial psalm
3 New Testament

I believe that even if it's just a ceremony there are at least 3 readings.

We had 3 readers

two readings and the prayer of the faithful, plus we had people bring up the gifts, I also had a friend who is a eucharistic minister involved and two old friends sang at the wedding -their voices are amazing...there are ways for you to involve others if needed...also you can have someone pass out the programs or someone pass out the petal cones(or whatever you are having thrown)
