What's the most difficult thing you have been through with FH?

What's the most difficult thing you have been through with FH?

I think for us we've been together for so so long that it's hard to choose just one.

But the whole series of events that happenned in 05/06 when my mom fell down the stairs, my dad left us with tons of bills, I was disabled, and FH who was trying to support us got laid off, and then got very depressed and we ended up cancelling our original wedding was the most difficult. Also throw in there that we weren't talking to his family for part of it.

I would also say all of the deaths in the family have been difficult. We've lost a lot of people in our time together, but in a 2 year span Doug lost his grandpa, his uncle, and his dad all to cancer, and he had just lost his other 3 grandparents, practically one per year before that. When his dad passed away last year that was really difficult too.

I feel like we are SO much stronger because of it.

Hands down the most difficult thing was the 2 times my FH was deployed to Iraq. The first time for about 14 months, and the second time for about 16. I cant even begin to explain what my emotions were like. It was like litterally being scared every second of every day. I never slept, and everytime the phone rang I was scared to answer it in fear that something happened to him. Gosh, I am so glad those days are over and that FH is home safe.

October 2009 my father was in a terrible motorcycle accident. He was in a coma for 3 months and the doctors didn't know if he would make it. My family was in shambles and I literally didn't know how to cope. FH stood by my side and was there for me in every single way. I didn't really talk about it to anyone, except for him. I don't think I could have made it through without him. He was my rock.

FH's mother's death. I can't even think about it without tearing up. She was a fighter and it was her 3rd time getting leukemia. I knew she was suffering in the ICU and we all were. I prayed that God would take care of her and within 2 days she passed. I knew she was happy for FH and I though. She knew we'd always be there for each other.

We got engaged on her birthday.

Definitely the long distance, which has been the majority of our relationship. I can't wait to be married so we don't have to be apart anymore. On a positive note, it creates an environment where we have to trust each other, which is crutial to any relationship.

Probably the risidual affects of the cancer FH had. In the beginning of us dating he was still dealing with a lot of issues from the chemo he had used. Our first valentine's day was spent in his hospital room - he had pneumonia and for someone w/ no immune system that's not good.

I splet in a wooden chair all night next time him - writing down his vitals every 15 minutes since his parents couldnt be there (his dad had surgery and was recovering).

I was so scared but I knew he was even more scared. It was a process getting to where he is now - trying to get his immune system back (especially as a first grade teacher). Lots of doctor appointments and every month he gets an IV treatment to help him.

Re: What's the most difficult thing you have been through with FH?

Just hearing what everyone's been though tears me up. We've been together 4 years (the day after the wedding). He wanted to get married last year and I wasn't ready. I adopted my daughter solo in 2008 which was a year after we met but I didn't think he'd stick around.

Jan 2010 his mom broke her hip and the day she came home his dad had a heart attach, quad bypass/valve replacement. In August my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic lung cancer spread to her liver. She found out by accident, she had no symptoms. We also suffered through 1 miscarriage in March, just 12 days after learning we were pregnant (we weren't trying but we elated). I had a second pregnancy, more chemical than viable and the second easier loss happened in October during our house hunting trip while we were at Disney.

For me hearing about someone's values is one thing, seeing them in action speaks volumes. When my daughter got sick in July, he had just gotten off a red eye and 36 hours awake. We took her to the ER and she cried, he cried. I knew I wanted to spend my life with him. the rest is history. A month ago his father has a small stroke but he's hanging on and my mom is bald but fighting. 29 days to go, we just want the people we love the most to be there

Re: What's the most difficult thing you have been through with FH?

Most difficult has been when we first moved into our first apartment together in Jan. '07. 2 weeks living there FH's father had a heart attack (pretty serious one) & then a month after living there FH & I had a nice dinner he cooked & glasses of wine & went to bed early that night a few hours after sleeping my house phone rang & it was my sister calling to tell me 'steve just got into an accident' & being woken up out of a deep sleep I was somewhat confused & then freaked then my cell phone rang & it was my dad SCREAMING 'he's F^&%ing dead!!' & kept repeating it! I then talked to him & my sister & then decided I'm going to the hospital I told my dad I would meet them there. My sister & BIL on the other line together told me 'don't go the roads are obviously bad' & then we found out what hospital he was going to' & then my BIL said 'he's either already dead or not that bad' I freaked even more. got to the hospital & my parents were already thru the doors & I waited in the lobby with family friends & FH. As I was watching thru the window saw my father turn around beat red in the face swinging his arms & thats when I knew it wasn't good... My brothers accident was just 30seconds up the road making it really hard to leave there & eventually left after a year. The apartment complex understood & let us leave the lease early...

I completely understand. Something very similar happened to FH and I this summer. I slept many nights in the hospital too :(

I semi know how you feel FH was in the coast guard so my answer is similar he'd go to other countries for the first two years we were together for 3-4 months chasing after drug boats. Not all that safe, so that really ******. Plus we lived 5 hours away at the time, so we didn't see eachother often. But everythings good now .

and props to you and your FH melissa, I knew few people in the coast guard that could last through 3 month long distance relationships let alone more than a year!

Wow these stories are intense, so teary eyed right now!

I think for us it was when i got pregnant...i was always told i couldnt have kids so it came as a surprise...i was a high risk pregnancy the whole time, it was touch and go for awhile...i was in the hospital alot in the beginning and even ended up having him nearly a month early

it was a very hard situation and they aren't sure how i will do with other pregnancies
