what's the point of hand cancelling?

if they are going to run it through the machine anyway.

my mom sat there and hand canceled all 65 envelopes at the post office - only to have them RE cancel it with the machine.


Now they look like sh*t!

You go through all that trouble of making them look perfect, and some idiot at the post office screws it up anyway

I dont know, I could be wrong, but I think if they dont hand cancel they go through 2 machines. If they do they go through just one. I could be wrong though.

I thought if you hand cancel - you don't get the tire tracks.

well mine have the hand cancel stamp, and the tire tracks over it.

the inner envelpes were crushed.

I guess that idiot though my mom wanted to hand cancel them for fun.

Amy's right. Hand cancelling only avoids the postage cancelling stamp...they still get barcoded. My MOH was pissed when she got hers because it had 3 stamps on it! Totally stupid since I hand cancelled them!

yeah - mine has 3 on it... people who don't work at the post office know that!

eta - I calmed down a bit.... My FH put it in perspective 'you know - people are going to throw these out'

If they are hand canceled they are not supposed to be run through any machines. I have 2 wedding invites in front of me and both of them don't have tire tracks and were hand canceled.
