We were just in Maine for a long weekend and spent a whole day in Portland! We loved that city and walked around there for hours, and my husband HATES walking, so it must have been special!

Portland has a great art museum with a very decent impressionists collection; great restaurants; beautiful Marina sites; the whole city is really nice and clean with lots of lovely views, well preserved old buildings and streets.

Have fun!

Forget the mall - it sucks. Hit the Old Port. There are lots of great specialty shops and restaurants. Walk around the waterfront (Commercial St.) There are also trolley rides you can take. If you're there on Wednesday, there is a farmers' market in Monument Square on Congress St.
If you feel like heading to some lighthouses or beaches, take the Casco Bay Bridge to South Portland.... Bug Light, Portland Head Light, Fort Williams, Crescent Beach, Higgins Beach, Willard Beach, Scarborough Beach, Kettle Cove. These are all really nice places not far from Portland. You could get directions very easily.

You're headed to my home-town! Have a great time...I'm jealous!
