what's your proposal story

It's such a rmantic time of year, and I realize that I talk to many of you and don't know how you were proosed to.

Here is mine:

My husband and I met on Fire Island and we've both spent every summer there for the past several years.

On Christmas Eve Day (last year, 2004) we decided to visit the construction site of what was to become our Fire Island summer house for the summer of 2005. We were in the partially built living room and the waves were crashing in the background. Scott asked me to take a photo. At first I did not even notice the ring tied to the camera. Then he asked. Yes, he did get down on one knee!! We then shared a bottle of champagne. That bottle is now in a Time Capsule that is buried in a wall of the summer house.

Re: what's your proposal story

We were making travel plans to go to a friend wedding in Florida. FH hates flying but said he wanted to overcome his fear. He asked if I minded if he left the day before me. I didn't mind since he could pick up the rental car and I would have to wait We attending the wedding in South Beach and then spent the rest of our vacation in Ft Lauderdale. We always go to one really nice dinner where we get all dresses up. The restaurant we always go to is on the beach so he thought it would be great if we went right before sunset. We got to the restaurant about 45 inutes before our reservation so we decided to take a walk on the beach. Right before we are going to head to the restaurant he gives me the biggest hug and kiss and then pulls away and gets down on one knee. I threw my shoes and my bag onto the sand and dropped to my knees. I couldn't believ it was happening. It took me a while because I was crying so much that he finally had to ask me for an answer. Of couse I said YES YES YES.

I work in the jewelry industry and the week before we were leaving I say him in the lobby of my building. He said he just dropped by to say hello (at the time he was working the overnight shift at a hotel 3 blocks away) I didn't think anything was odd about that. Turns out he was picking out my diamond. He wanted to leave before me so that if security wanted to check him I wouldn't see the ring.

Sorry it was long but I love retelling the story!!!!

Re: what's your proposal story

To make a long story short, DH cooked me a surprise candlelit dinner and had all of our favorite songs playing on his computer...He told me he had a present in his bedroom for me and when I got there, there were 4 dozen roses on his bed (my favorite movie is 'bed of roses')...I immediately started to cry...We went back downstairs and he told me he wanted to give me something...He gave me a giant hershey kiss (we go to Hershey Park every summer, its our favorite place)...I opened it and on the flag, it said 'Kara, I Love you so much, will you marry me?' and he got down on one knee...I was crying so hard, I could barely breath...I knew the proposal was coming but when it actually did happen, its a moment you can never prepare for!!! One of the best days of my life!!!!

Well, first a little background-
FH used to work as a recording engineer in the same building where Sesame Stree films all their shows. He did a lot of the music and other recordings for the show. Now for the story-

FH called me and told me I had to come pick him up at work. He works in Queens, I live on LI, not a five minute drive. He told me I had to come in because he wanted me to meet someone. I said 'who, Gwen Stefani?' but he said no. So I make the hour drive into Queens thinking who does he want me to meet?
When I get to his work, he meets me and starts leading me to a place I had never been to in the room. For some reason I have in my mind that I am meeting Oprah. (why? I don't know). Anyway, we get to a door, and he tells me he wants me to meet Elmo. I'm like, I already met him (I met the guy who does Elmo before this). But he opens the door to a 'green room' (where people hang out before going on the show) and there is a spectacular view of the NYC skyline, and on the couch is a stuffed Elmo wearing a tux and holding a rose. Now, I have no idea what is going on. He tells me to sit down, gives me the Elmo, and tells me to squeeze its hand. And it starts talking to me!! It says 'Hi Lauren, this is Elmo. Travis has something to ask you. Travis, get on one knee.. ' I turn to FH and there he is on one knee with a ring!! He asks me to marry him, and of course I said yes. Then the doll starts saying 'yay!! 'and humming the wedding march and does the ELmo laugh!
FH got the guy who does Elmo to record this whole thing for the proposal, and then Kevin (ELMO) called Fisher Price and asked them to make a special doll just for the proposal. So I have a totally one of a kind Elmo to keep forever to remember the day!!

Wow, sorry so long, but I love the story!

Re: what's your proposal story

We went down to Disney to celebrate Valentine's Day. We decided the trip would be our gift to each other so we wouldn't exchange gifts. When we got there he wouldn't let me in the room safe or anything for the first few days. We were down there with about 1,000 hs cheerleaders we didn't know it was the national hs cheerleading competition. So we went out to the magic kingdom during the day and when we got back to the room Rob nearly died that our room hadn't been cleaned I thought he would I thought he was losing it. We found the housekeeper and asked for clean towels and then got ready to go out for dinner. While I was doing my hair he was cleaning the room I thought he was going crazy. Then after I was done he went into the story about how he knew we weren't suppose to get each other anything, but he couldn't help himself. Then he took out the ring.

Re: what's your proposal story

I HATE surprises.

So that being said FH wanted os much to make a big production out of the proposal, but he knew the second that something was out of the ordinary, I would totally catch on. We had a particulary fun weekend and on Sunday we decided to relax and just hang. So we went to Sam's club, played video games and I took a nap. I needed to go back to my place to do some work so we left his house. It was one of those unusually warm Nov weekends and rob suggested that we go drive down my lake ronkonkoma. I took the bait and wanted to get out when we got there. FH said he had a confession to make so I start freaking thinking something is wrong and he says he meant to take me here because he had something to tell me. Im still thinking something is up (like he was getting deployed again). He got down on one knee and from there I honeslt have no idea what he said because I was so shocked. It was perfect because I am NEVER surprised and this blew me away. Turns out he had the ring for a MONTH before asking too!

Re: what's your proposal story

it was our 1st x-mas living together and we bought a x-mas tree.
i was doing the majority of the decorating but at the last minute he yells out that he forgot one ornament.
he runs to the bedroom and bring out this large red box. it is used to hold his baby's 1st x-mas ornament.
so he tells me to put the ornament on the tree- i tell him to do it b/c i was sweeping up needles...he tells me to do it...i tell him to do it...he tells me to do it...i yell at him to just hang the damn thing up. at this point im angry and when he said it one more time i grabbed the stupid box and inside was a velvet box and my e-ring.

i went into shock and said 'no no no no no no no' over and over. I started crying and cannot remember him saying 'will you marry me?' eventually i said yes of course

Re: what's your proposal story

When I came home from work FH picked me up, blindfolded me and covered my ears with big headphones (that played Chicago love songs the whole time).

He drove to Jones Beach (where he asked me to be his GF 7 years before). He walked me down the boardwalk, through the sand and down to the shore (still wearing a blindfold and headphones).

When he took the headphones and blindfold off I was standing in front of a huge heart-shaped hole filled with purple candles that spelled out, MARRY ME! Behind the heart in the sand was a stuffed build-a-bear in a tux holding a stuffing-filled heart while sitting on a red cushion. He told me to pick up the bear. The bear had a little tag on him that read:
'There's something special in my heart for you! Once you find it, press my left arm for a special message.'

Inside the heart, the bear was holding was the ring. I pushed the bear's arm to hear FH's voice (recorded) saying:

'Hey Baby, it's me. I have a very important question to ask you. Babe, will you marry me?'

At the same time, he was on his knees in front of me saying the 'Babe, will you marry me?' part along with the bear.

After all this, we went back to the car to go out to dinner. I was going to call my parents, but he suggested I wait until after dinner. We pulled up to our favorite restaurant and he said, 'oh, look who's here!' It was both of our parents.

At dinner I learned why I had worn headphones! He was communicating with his parents via walkie-talkies. They helped to set up the heart in the sand, along with some help from strangers on the beach who thought it was romantic! His father video-taped the whole proposal from a distance!! I always told him that I would love to have the proposal video taped so I could look back and see it again.

Re: what's your proposal story

Not too romatic, FH's dad was fatally ill and after dating him 8 years (since HS) I hadn't really met them b/c they are traditional Indian and only wanted to meet me after he put a ring on my finger (they approved but are silly- did the same to FBIL wife and she's also Protestant and from the same part of India- so it's not a white thing! ). He wanted to make it official before his dad passed and also make his mom feel better about introducing me to family at the hospital (they broke tradition a little given the circumstances) so the night I got my new car we drove around and FH took the wheel. He put the ring in the arm rest (when I wasnt looking) and pulled over in front of Floral Terrace, which is a few blocks from my house!

He said that there was this new feature in the arm rest and to take a look (at this point I knew what was happening). He went to my side, got on one knee and popped the question. I honestly don't remember what he said, but you can guess the answer.

FH wanted to go to one of our fave restaurants but I didn't get home from the car dealership until late at night. He wanted to ask that night b/c it was a bright point in a rather bleek few months and FT has pretty lights in front of it. We thought about having the reception at FT but never had the time to go by! I hope I don't regret that! It's also where my parents used to go on dates when it was still a movie theater! Oh, well! The story doens't get oohs and aahs like some other stories but it's ours!! Couldn't have asked for a better guy or a better match for me!

I love this one! and the Elmo one!! I heard of one story when I was in training in Walt Disney World where the guy was one vacation with his GF (now DW, I guess!) and their families and he dissapeared- she eventrually went out to look for him with someone from her family. They got her to sit for a second in the Cinderella carriage that 'happened' to be sitting out front and it took off with her in it!

It took her into the Magic Kingdom (which was closed at this point) and Main St was all lit but just the little x-mas lights. She pulled up to the Castle and there was a thrown there. She sat in the seat and her DH came riding up on a white horse, asked her and when she said yes her family came out from their hiding spots! It must have cost him a pretty penny!

I love that Mattsbride and the one with Elmo are just as romantic and cost very little! Great stories!! Thanks for sharing!
