When addressing envelopes..

So FMIL is inviting some of her friends from work & I know that they are married just don't know their husbands names.. She gave me a list of their names & addresses but I don't know their husbands names... Does it look tacky if I put ...

~OR~
Mr. & Mrs. John Smith*

I'm doing your second option for married couples. Non married its there first and last names separately.

Hope that helps.

If you do not know the husbands names how can you write Mr and
Mrs John Smith? You would have to go with option 1. Or just have your FMIL ask her co-workers.

What I was trying to say is.. If I can't find out their husbands first names.. Is it bad if I write Mr. & Mrs. Smith or do i NEED to find out their names?

* ETA this is only about 8couples on my entire guest list... Thankfully it's not THAT big of a problem

I'm a very traditional bride, so I'd say 'Yes' to needing first names. It'll be the most important day of your life, and you want your guests to know their presence is just as important, so you should have their first names . However, that's just me! Good luck with your invitations!

If it would be simple to get their husbands name, I'd go for it. If it's impossible, I don't think it's the end of the world not including the first name.

I'm as non-traditional as it gets when it comes to this stuff (my FH's baseball team is all being invited by their nicknames, ie: Mr. and Mrs. Tree Smith) so I wouldn't worry about finding out first names. So Mr. and Mrs. Smith works fine in my opinion.
