Re: When are you technically married????

i believe when the officant starts talking about under the power of me by state of NY..i know prounce you blah blah blah...

it depends in the wording of your ceremony

whats gonna happen with your certificate, you sign it at the town hall... then officant will sign it before the ceremony with witnesses.

i believe she signs it at the end and then your married.

its been 2 weeks and we just got back our certificate from the town

I think its when the marriage license is signed by everyone. In that case I was married before I walked down the aisle b/c the deacon wanted to get it out of the way!!!

Dayum - don't tell my FH that! He'll definately say skip all the fuss of the wedding!!!

From what my cousin/officiant told us, when she says 'By the power vested.... husband and wife' is when it's totally official - but make sure everything gets signed or forgettaboutit!

Re: When are you technically married????

It is when the officiant signs the contract. I remember a funny story that my FMIL told me about it. After her ceremony the oficiant approached them and said 'actually you were married last night. That is when I signed the license.'

Was Funny.
