When buying a house....

...do you get the lawyer BEFORE a mortgage is processed or after?

Around the same time. When you first go to inquire about the mortgage they prequalify you for a certain amount so you know how much of a house you can afford. Once you have decided on ahouse is when you need a lawyer.

I got my lawyer right away. She looked over the offer for me before I submitted it and once the offer was accepted she ran through the contracts and made changes.

If you need any help I work for Countrywide.
I would get my attorney as soon as possible. Once you find a house your attorney is going to have a big part. If you need any names let me know.

yes! It applies to co-ops too! Your attorney can guide you through the process and possibly recommend great mortgage people for you to work with. I work for a great real estate attorney in long island....if you have ANY questings FM me. I've been doing this for 5 years! If you need bank recommendations...let me know!

Also...you have to be careful when finding an attorney....i think its very important for you to find someone that specializes in real estate....i can not begin to tell you how many times....non real estate attorneys have f'd up thier clients deals because they had no idea what they were doing. Hopefully your realtor can refer someone.

Definitely, our mortgage broker told us that this is a must.

thanks! i didnt know i needed a real estate lawyer for coops....waht will they do and cost....sorry for the dumb question....but as you can probably see this is my first time buying a place!
