When Choosing your reception spot

When Choosing your reception spot

What was the most important to you besides price, of course.
Would you sacrifice not having a dj for perfect views and probably having to pay rental fees?

music is very important- i would def. find a place more in my budget rather than cut the music out....

To be honest with you, to me it was the location, the food, and the decor...since we're having a small wedding (75 guests) we really did not find the reception place of our dreams. But Westbury Manor was THE MOST accomodating out of all the other places that we have seen, so we kind settled for that. But we're happy with the decision that we have made.

We are still deciding on a location, but....

Food is the most important. We love to eat!

The decor of the room is equally as important to us. We don't want to get married at a place where there is a lot of marble or dark wood, or if the ceiling is too low.

When you say 'sacrifice not having a dj' - do you mean no music at all or that you have to have a band? I would rather have a dj than a good view. Who looks out the windows during a wedding, anyway?

Edited to add:

Oh and I would definitely not sacrifice not having a DJ for perfect views...you want your guests to have fun and dance the night away...they're not going to look out the window all night...

Location ! Location ! Location !

I love the Robert Moses Bridge and the water and needed that particular view from my reception. (I take Ocean Parkway to work every day and just love that bridge!)

My mom thought we should go for certain caterer (Lessings) but I decided on John Anthony's/ Venetian Yacht for the view.

ETA: We are not compromising on the music by choosing this place though...We got the DJ of our choice as well.

The spectacular view - especially given that I am getting married in the summer!

I think you need to have some sort of entertainment. A great view is nice, but people are going to remember the food and if they were kept entertained. I would not sacrifice music. You can find very reasonably priced DJs.

I wouldn't sacrfice music for the view. I think it's important to like where you are getting married. However I also feel that music helps make the party. I would try to find a good compromise between the 2.

i would never sacrifice music for a view- imo food can be just decent IF the music is incredible! I fell in love with the decor at EW estate- i looove the cocktail hour set up ...i felt it took me back to a different era... i love it and it helps that the food is terrific..and i know my band will be superb

go with what you love

For me it was the view and the decor plus I didnt want carpeted floors! But if I had to pick between entertainment like a DJ and the view, Id go for the DJ.

I sacrificed not having an outdoor view and the date of my wedding (from May to March!) for a beautiful reception hall. These were both pretty important to us in the beginning but I wouldnt change a thing!

The 2 most important things that guests remember the most are the food and the music. I couldn't imagine sacrifiing the music for a spectacular view. I had wanted a view of the water but my hall is on a beautiful golf course instead, so I settled on the view but everything else is just as I wanted.

I think that food is #1 when picking a reception place.

Re: When Choosing your reception spot

we're in the process of choosing right now.

I want 1 wedding at a time, no marble, no carpet, and most importantly, NO FLOWERY THINGS in the reception room.

Then food
Then location (proximity to our homes/church)
THEN view

I won't look at a place if they can't accomodate a DJ. I think music is SO important to a wedding!!!

Well we can't have any outside music but they provide music I guess like a stereo or something. but I think it's not worth it then.

I wouldn't sacrifice music for views. Views are nice but you definitely want people dancing rather than looking out a window all night. My top priorities were food and room decor..we sacrificed driveway/garden for it. Good Luck Tania.

I wouldnt compromise music for a view. The place we loved doesnt have a view and that is fine by me. I would prefer my guests to enjoy the party and have fun...then wonder how many of them are REALLY going to stare out the window all night

The most important thing was the food. Then it was the service. We also didnt really like the place we chose until we went and walked around and spoke to the BM. Once we saw it we loved it. So the fact that their food is VERY good just added to it!
