When deciding on BM dresses, how did you touch the subject of costs with the girls? 2 of my BMs are my cousins who I was in their weddings and they are aware of what dresses can cost. My other BM, a good friend who lives in VA, is very unaware of what a NY wedding is like (her own was a backyard bbq). I just emailed her to find out what kind of budget she'd like to stick to, but she may think $150 on a dress is too much. I'd be willing to help with the cost if need be... but I was just curious to know how you chose a dress. I feel bad asking someone to pay so much on something. Did anyone's BMs have a budget that was much lower than a dress you really liked?

Re: When deciding on BM dresses.... (RP from BHB)
I had a situation semi similiar....one of my BMs just bought a house, money is tight etc....the dresses we chose are just over $200.....i just spoke to her privately and told her I know they are a little pricey, and with shoes, hair, makeup and whatnot if its to much let me know what you can afford. Being that we got dresses over a year ahead of time she wouldnt let me help pay she said she had plenty of time to save up.
Just be honest with her, obviously your close with her if shes a BM.....give her the price and tell her you that weddings are different in NY from VA if it's to much.

I had an issue with 2 of my BMs... they were in shock to spend 150 for ONE dress. But, my other 3 BMs understood how much it is to be in a wedding, and they said it was a great deal!! I was able to talk to the first 2 BMs, and even had my OTHER BMS talk to them to ease their nerves. It's a tough subject, but it always ends up working out...

Re: When deciding on BM dresses.... (RP from BHB)
I have 6 BMs and then my 2 sisters are my MOH's...and I have yet to discuss it with them. But - since my wedding is just over a year away, I'm hoping to finalize which dress I want for them and then give them PLENTY of time to save before the time comes for them to order it. Hopefully this will make it less awkward if I'm not telling them to buy it ASAP. Any other suggestions are welcome! :)
