We're getting married Sept 14th 2007. FH's uncle is a printer and said once we pick them, it'll take about 2 weeks. We never sent save the date cards b/c we just decided a fwe weeks ago that we're getting married in '07 rather than '08.
Is 3 months enough time to alert people of the wedding?

YAY!! We have the same date!!!!
I'm actually ordering my invites tomorrow. I was told they'd be ready in two weeks as well.
If you order yours now and send them out by mid to late June, you should be okay!

I'm getting married the day after you ladies! I just ordered my invites today...still have to get the proof though. I'm planning on sending mine out the last week of June!

Order them now, but you should really only send them out 8 weeks before your wedding, which would be July 14th (ettiquette books say 6-8 weeks, no more than 10 weeks).
Remember, the earlier you send them, the easier for them to put it aside and forget.
Also, the RSVP should be about 4 weeks before your date, so around August 14.

I agree.....I got an invitation in June for an October wedding and I wound up losing it (we were in the middle of moving) So I had to be totally tacky and to rsvp to the bride at her shower and have her e-mail me the info

I think that when you don't send out save the date notices, it's a good thing to send out invitations earlier than the 6-8 week window (especially if you have lots of OOT guests).
We're getting married on July 28. We sent out invitations around May 1 and asked people to return them by June 24. Over half have come back already. In a few cases, people tried to accommodate their summer vacation plans around the date.

Honestly, STD's are not as common as they seem to be with LIW'ers. I've NEVER EVER received a STD for anyone's wedding. They say it's best to send the STD's if you're having your wedding on a holiday/popular weekend or if it's on a day other than the 'normal' wedding days of the week. My wedding is on a Friday and I did send STD's but I really didn't have to (I just wanted to).
I'd still stick to 8 weeks before. Don't worry, that's the norm!

The eralier, the better.
I have to plan my Sept schedule NOW & request weekends off. I know 2 of my friends are getting married: one sent a STD (just a few weeks ago), the other nothing. I have no clue when the other is getting married & will have to call to make sure I can make her wedding (NOT so convenient)....
I love knowing about things sooner rather than later.

We sent ours out 8 weeks before the wedding with an RSVP date for 4.5 weeks before the wedding.
That was the advice we had received from the place we ordered our invitations from.
