i answer the door, they grab candy, and don't even say trick or treat or thank you!!
when i was a kid i always said trick or treat! and then one little monster took a whole handful of my chocolate bars instead of one!
geez...ok now i feel better.

My parents had only one group of trick or treaters and they asked for bottled water after they gave them candy because they were thirsty. My parents said they handed out five bottles!!

Wow. When I was a kid it never occured to me to ask for different candy if I got something I didn't like; I just said thank you and went to the next house.

Re: when did trick or treaters get so rude?
we had none thank goodness - but the people i saw were rude dudes!!!! ok, so i live in brooklyn, but for some reason these monsters without costumes think it's ok to stand in the middle of intersections talking on their CELL PHONES and then yell at ME when i BEEP so i can go through a green light without killing them. where do i begin - if you are old enough to have a cell phone, then you probably should not be out grabbing candy without a costume and without saying thank you. if you're too cool to wear a costume, then you're too old to be asking for treats.
and then there are the idiotic parents who stand around and gab without supervising their little ones. a baby - literally about a year-and-a-half old and dressed as an islander ran out into the middle of the street before his mother (or female adult supervisor - could be a sitter for all i know) realized he was in the middle of the street. that poor cute kid could have been seriously injured had a cabbie been driving down the street.
ok - i am done - needed to vent - it was a long drive home made worse by the ungrateful miscreants in the neighborhood. (and no - i'm not usually like this - it was just a bad day.)

Re: when did trick or treaters get so rude?
I didn't have any trick or treaters this year (I live in a graduate apt complex, very few kids). But last year, there was this three year old girl holding a plastic supermarket bag, and she didn't even have a costume. Her mother was young, and was on the cell phone. She wasn't even paying attention. I felt so bad for the little girl! I gave her a ton of candy. I mean, for $5 you can make some sort of costume. There's no excuse! The girl must have felt so bad. I hate when parents are too damn lazy!!

Re: when did trick or treaters get so rude?
i used to love getting nickels! we even used to get a quarter once in a while. it seemed like i was rolling in the $$$$$. but now, when the tooth fairy gives you $10 or $20 a tooth, i guess a dollar worth of nickels isn't very exciting

OMG!!
We only had three sets of trick-or-treaters and they were all polite and said trick or treat. Big difference from last year where they just held out their bags!!
