We have looked at a few houses already but haven't been pre qualified yet.
When did you actually apply for a mortgage? Before you started househunting or when you found one you wanted to buy?

I just prequalified once I was a couple of houses. I also called a couple of brokers and banks to see which had the best deal. I didn't actually choose which bank I wanted to go with and apply until I was in contract. It usually says in the contract that you have 30-45 days to get your mortgage commitment. That is more time than you really need, which is good because then you won't feel rushed.

i got prequalified first, so i knew what price range we could look in. Then found a house and went into contract then started looking for mortgages.
