when did you ask your bridal party to be in your bridal party?

how long after the engagement and before the wedding?

also, i have a step sister that i am not that close with, we get along great though, do i have to make her a maid of honor out of courtesy? with my best friend of course.

I wouldn't make her a MOH, but a bridesmaid would be nice - you aren't obligated to have her be a MOH.

I asked my FSIL to be my MOH because I didn't have anyone else really and I thought it would be nice for us to be closer. We got engaged in Dec. and I asked her I think in March - I waited until what seemed like a good time.

since we havent picked the whole party we are waiting to tell everyone till christmas time( a year after we announced and a year before our wedding..) but it is common knowledge that his brother wil be best man and sister matron of honor..
