I am only having 3, 2 bm and moh, unofficially basically i told them about August of last year, officially asked them to do me the honor about 1 month ago, i know a little late

at my engagement party-I wrapped up little pumpkins in celophane and attached small poems to each at the end we added 'please do us the honor of being part of our bridal party' That was about a year and a half before my wedding--a little too soon, but I've known for a LONG time who I wanted to have be part of our day!

I actually asked my friends before I was engaged. We were all out to dinner and I said, you nkow when Steve and I get married I want you all to be part of me wedding. They were all really touched.

At the wise advice of brides on this website, I waited till some of my over-excitment settled down before I asked my BMs. I was engaged in March, and I ended up asking them each individually in May.

That may not seem like a very long time to think about it, but it was enough time for me to realize that a few of the poeple I originally was planning to ask were not who I really wanted. I think it is wise to think about it for a while.

In July (one year before the wedding), FH and I are having an engagement party, and there I will present each BM and MOH with a special card that I will write something personal in. So I guess that will be the formal 'proposal.'

about one year before (we will be engaged for two years before getting married)

Pretty much a week or so after we got engaged. We are a very close bunch of friends so once we picked the date I called and asked them so I could be sure the date was good for all. Except for my MOH - she knew on the spot the day I called to say I was engaged she was going to be my MOH. We have been friends since we were 5. She was like okay - what should I start doing?

At my engagement party in Sept 03, I'm getting married in Oct 04 so almost a year.

We got engaged in October - and in January (wanted to wait til the holidays died down and I had a chance to really think about who I wanted) I made cards for all 7 of them (2 MOH & 5 BM) and asked them to be my bridesmaids. I also wrote extremely long letters to 3 of them who are out of town but my best friends, explaining how I would not be upset if they didnt want to do it because of money/travel. Everyone accepted - I was so happy!

Most of mine sort of already knew I would ask. But I officially wrote a few an email and they answered in person and at my engagement party on Sunday I am going to formally ask them and introduce them.

I asked them almost immediately after getting engaged, more than 2 years before the wedding at the time. But only the 5 or so that I was positive about. There were others and those came months later after thinking it over thoroughly.

I advise you to wait as long as you can and think abouta few things:

The bigger the BP the more expensive everything is -- flowers, gifts, limos AND the longer it will take to get things organized -- ordering the dresses, getting ready the day of, taking pictures, etc

i asked my MOH the day we got engaged and the other bridesmaids one year after we got engaged and 2 years before the wedding

They all knew for years! They knew how special they were to me, I didnt have to ask formally.

I just asked them last friday night...I had them over for dinner and gave each of them a scroll with a poem in it asking them to be a BM or MOH...I also gave similar ones to the ushers....

They really liked them (and it made i feel very special.
