We have 4 months until the wedding so I guess we better call the photographer and ask them. Also, what's the purpose of the engagment shoot? Sorry if it sounds silly, I really don't know. Do they take a couple of photos or just one?

We have about 100 proofs from our engagement shoot, taken in studio, at a park, and at the beach. The purpose, at least for us, was to become comfortable with our photographer. It was lots of fun to do, and I love having professional pictures of us that are not from our wedding. Hope that helps!

We did ours last month, and we are getting married in October. Pretty stupid, huh? Anyway, we just got them really because it was part of our package, and we thought that it would be nice to have professional pictures of us not in wedding attire. I think that it is not really a big deal if you don't get them, but if they come w/ your package and your paying for it I would do it.

We did our engagement photos in January (wedding in Oct). I used them for our STD cards that went out in Feb, and on our programs.
I know some people do them the night before if they can't make time. Its up to you and your FH.

Thank you. We booked the photographer a while ago so I don't remember whether we were supposed to call him for engagement photos or he was calling us. I guess I'll call him. We weren't even assigned our photographer yet.Its Patken but I don't know which person.

We are using patken as well, we called them for our engagement shoot. We are getting married in Nov and got it done in Jan. We are using Frank, he is really nice and we got some great shots. What they do is take about 15 to 20 in different poses, both traditional and non traditional poses. We decided to get the engagment shots because we have been together for over 6 years and have no nice pictures of just us, so we thought this would be the perfect time.

We are getting married on October & didn't take them yet. I thought it was sort of silly being so close to the wedding, my photographer (who I just booked last month) explained as a useful way for her to learn about how we photograph. It made sense to me because my Fi is not very good at having his pic taken, now he'll be more comfortable on our wedding day with her. Plus, it's your last portrait before you're married!

copied from my post on the Vendor board: When we booked Patken, Doug, Vinny & Steve were booked for our date. We weren't familiar with the work of anyone else so we agreed to wait until after the engagement pictures to assign a photograher.
Originally, Doug was going to take them, but when we got there he suggested another photographer do them (since this guy was available on our day if we liked his work) We HATED our pictures - I'm so glad we found that out with the engagement shots rather than the wedding pictures.
Based on our dissatisfaction with those, Doug assigned Vinny (who had become available).
They're some truth to the idea of seeing a good fit once you're in front of the camera, but what if after you take your pictures, there's only 1 guy available. Obviously, he will be your chosen one.
If you went with Patken because you wanted something more creative, call and see if Steve, Vinny or Doug are available on your date (though I think you pay a premium for them)
I posted some 'cropped' versions of proofs Vinny did (under the post 'LisaT - we have the same dress')- we were generally pleased with his work but were hoping for some more 'different shots'.

We did ours in August, we used them for our STD and our invites and our everything else it depends on your timing and your photographer. My wedding is in 17 days

I am getting married in November and we just took them last month. We wanted to wait for the weather to be nice. We went to the cutting fields in Suffolk. As a matter of fact, I am picking them up tomorrow. I will post them for you guys.
