When do babies start crawling?

When is it considered 'normal' to start crawling? Six months? Eight months? Just curious.... Thanks

Emma started at 5 1/2 months. I think anywhere between 5-10 months is normal

Thanks -- my friend's son did not start crawling until about 10 months. My other friend told me 'oh, he's delayed...'

I just didn't think that was correct (or very nice... ) I think she said it because her daughter started crawling at 6 months. But it doesn't mean our other's friend's son is delayed!!!!

Ususally boys take longer for things than girls. 10 months is on the far end of the normal range but its still fine. People just expect the 6 month crawling and 10 month walking thing. Each kid is different. Nothing is wrong.

Maiah first crawled at 8 months and walked 2 days before her first bday.

Molly will be 10 months on Saturday and crawls backwards but not forward yet. She rocks forward and she rolls like crazy. I do not consider her delayed. I consider her Molly. She is healthy. She smiles, laughs and claps hands and waves. She says sounds and babbles and says Momma, Dadda, Nanna. She also has no teeth yet even though she has been teething for months and months. I don't care if she doesn't fit into a text book of baby milestones. Your other friend sounds very competitive IMO. I am just not like that.

Michelle, thank you for weighing in. It really bothered me that my friend said this boy was 'delayed'... And yes, she is very competitive.

Some babies are delayed crawlers and walk soon after, some skip crawling all together and just begin crawling. Everyone develops at different stages.
