when do I...

when do I...

book the hotel block of rooms? Dont' want to do it too early.

What's the process like? For whatever reason, i'm stressing over this part! do hotels usually offer shuttle service or do you have to arrange that yourself.

TIA!

I also wanted to find out information about this too.

I think as far as the shuttle some hotels include it right from the start as part of the hotel itself but others sometime require a minimum number of guests to be booked to offer it... which hotels do this I am not too sure.

I am going to post on BHB about the ones in my area - Lynbrook/RVC not sure if that is by you.

thanks!
I'll be looking for ones close to the RH which is in New Hyde Park. I have a list of 3 close ones but wasn't sure if it was too early to be thinking of this stuff and definitely want to get a heads up about how it works, do you have to lay out money, etc..

I did my room block already at the Fox Hollow.

At the Fox Hollow you do not have to put any money down but you do have to guarantee 60% of the block. FH and I did a small block (where we know that we will have no problem with the 60%) and once the STDs go out and we can get a better idea of whether some of our friends are going to stay at the hotel that night we will increase the room block.

With regard to the shuttle.... Fox Hollow included it but that was the only place that I looked at that included a shuttle. I also looked at the Marriott and Hilton on 110 and the Four Points Sheraton. None of them included a shuttle and it was about $350 to $400 for them to add it!

I did my room block about 4 months ago. You can do it whenever you want really as long as they have their calendars ready.

Fh and I were discussing this earlier. He called Fox Hollow because we were offered a free room there but he doesn't feel comfortable asking our guest paying their price.

In fact we're thinking of hotels, I know there's a Holiday Inn right next door to our rh but I don't know if I want to stay there....anyone know how the Carle Place Holiday Inn is?

Re: when do I...

The hotel that my reception hall recommends only lets you book 1 year out. I haven't checked into other local hotels yet. I figure that we will start looking into it this summer, which is about 1 year out.

Do you have to do a hotel block?

We don't have many OOT guests.

Re: when do I...

I do not think that you have to do a room block but it may be a good idea. The rates are really alot lower than if someone was to call a hotel on their own and book.

Fox Hollow had a minimum guarantee but that was the only one.

I know Marriott and Hilton on 110 did not have a minimum. Any of the rooms that were not booked by a certain date would be released.

This way your guests can have a cheaper price and you have no money to lay out!

win win

Re: when do I...

Thanks for all the information ladies!!

I think I will start looking into this maybe at the 11 month mark. I do have a few OOT guests but also I think my immediate family and even some local friends were thinking of spending the night close by since its a good 40 min from my hometown. It would make for a fun brunch the next day if everyone stayed together in the same hotel! I hope I can work out a shuttle service for cheap! Plus, I think I'm going to honor the wishes of my (11 yr old) Jr maid of honor to have a hotel with an indoor pool! haha
