Just curious how far in advance I can do this. Oh- and do we both have to go or can I just go by myself?

You have to go to a town hall (any town hall in NY) within 60 days of your wedding (not before). It's $40, I think, and you each need two forms of ID (Drivers License & Birth Certificate). You can't go by yourself, your FH needs to be there with his identification as well.

You both have to go. You can go upto 60 days before your wedding date with a 24 hour waiting period.

Thanks! Now, can it be any type of identification? he obviously has his liscence but his birth certificate may be hard to locate because he was born in colombia. i wonder if his passport will suffice...

i JUST WENT TODAY...(IN THE BRONX), ALL THEY LOOKED AT WAS ONE ID...MY LICENSE..AND FI PASSPORT...U DONT NEED THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE..ITS 30 BUCKS IN CITY..AND A MONEY ORDER...DID U READ MY POST TODAY ABOUT GETTING MY LICENSE..HOPEFULLY WHEN U GO U WONT HAVE SUCH A CRAPPY DAY LIKE ME
passport is fine...I think thats the only thing that we used...we didn't have to show them SS card...only tell them the number
we went to the one in hempstead and it was really pleasant...people actually saw us outside on the wrong side of the complex and asked us if we needed to get a marriage license...I guess couples walking around aimlessly is a good sign...
you should know what country your parents wee born in (maybe city too) and which town you were born in...Queens is not enough...and of course DH only remembered the hospital (there are 2 in Queens)...so we guess...correctly too...
