I was engaged in June, registered in Aug/September and had my e-party in Ocotober. I would HIGHLY suggest you register before the party that way if you are having a party where guests want to bring gifts, they bring you what you like. People will ask your family what you want or like and it's easier for them to get off a registry.

i agree, if you are having an engagement party, then definately register beforehand. people like to buy things they know you need and requested.

I'd register prior to the e-party. That way if someone wants to get you something off the registry they can and they know you will like it.

my other question then is how would people know where i'm registerd? i wouldn't put anything in the invitation to the engagement. my fiance and i are throwing this ourselves.

Believe me, people will ask - and if they don't feel comfortable asking you, then they will track down your parents and find out! ONE DAY after we got engaged (and before we'd decided to have an eparty) my moms friends were already asking where we were going to register!

absolutely -people will ask your parents/friends/siblings, etc. People will almost EXPECT that you are registered somewhere so that they cen choose off a registry - you will be doing your family/friends a favor!

I registered before the e-party for kitchen items and China, things I know wouldn't get discontinued because it was over a year in advance. Most people asked where I was registered when they RSVPed for the party.

Just make sure you tell your parents and your wedding party where you are registered and let them spread the word for you.
