We sent our invites out 8-9 weeks before the wedding, and RSVPs were due exactly 1 month before.

RSVP's are due 1 month to the day of your wedding. You can send out anytime about 6-8 weeks before is the preference this way it gives enough time to get to people and leaves them enough time to RSVP.

We are sending out our invitations 8 weeks before the wedding, the rsvp is May 6th, wedding June 5th.

Re: When do you send out invites anyway???
i definitely made the rsvp date a full MONTH before the wedding (in fact, it might have even been more than that now that I think back. I think it was more like 1 1/2 - 2 months due to the SLACKERS that I knew I was inviting. lol). And i gave a month for them to respond. So it was about 2-3 months before the wedding that they were sent out.

i think sending them out too soon is sometimes worse. 8 weeks before is standard

I'm sending mine out 8 weeks before with an rsvp date 4 weeks before my wedding. I don't think people need all that much time to respond.

Sending them 6-8 weeks before is standard.
The rsvp date should depend on when your caterer needs a headcount, then make it a few weeks before so that you have enough time to track down the people that inevitably don't rsvp.
If you send them too early they can get lost and/or forgotten about. And if you have sent save the dates, there's no need to send them out terribly early.

Re: When do you send out invites anyway???
Is anyone else putting 'the favor of your prompt reply is requested' or something like that with no exact reply by date?
The lady doing our invitations suggested we do this bc we have a B list and didn't want to print two sets of response cards. And she said that people usually know right away and this way I can start calling for those who didn't respond whenever I am ready to.
Thoughts?

Hmmm....I'm not sure about this, even with a date clearly printed on the response card, we had many reply a week or more after that date, and had to track down some who never replied at all. I don't think I'd be comfortable with this, honestly.

I agree! ppl tend to stick them in a 'special place' and then forget about them
the standard is 6-8 weeks before, unless you are a destination wedding. then it is recommended 8-10 weeks.
for the reply card. at least 1 month. however if you have a 'b' list, make it 3 weeks prior, this way 'b' list people dont know their invite was sent out later.
