When do you send out the save the dates cards

I was wondering when do you send out the save the date cards for your engagement party?

For your engagement party? I don't think that's necessary. We sent our STD's for our wedding about 5 months prior.

I've never heard of STD for an engagement party - I don't think its necessary...I'm sending my STD for our wedding about 6-7 months prior

We did not have an engagement party. I thought that it would be held soon after the engagement. (Within 1-5 months of getting engaged depending upon when the couple planned to get married). Otherwise I would wonder why the couple waited so long to have the e-party and did not just get married already. (I.e, if you wanted your e-party next year and your wedding 2 years later). Sorry if that offends it is just my opinion.

I never had a real engagement party. Just had friends at a house drinking beers and having cake.

Having a e party next june and geting married the following june.

I want to do everything right

We sent our STD's for the wedding about a year before because its on a holiday weekend.

I didn't send out STD for my engagement party. I spoke to a couple of close friends and family members to make sure they didn't have anything major (vacation, weddings) planned on the same night of engagement party.

you don't send save the dates for an engagement party....because it's just a party. you wouldn't send a save the date for a birthday party or a baby shower, would you? you just send an invite the engagement party..not a STD...that's just for a wedding. which is usually sent 5-6 months prior...or about 7 for international guests.

I think you can pretty much send STDs for any occasion. As far as STDs for an engagement party, we didn't, we just sent the invitation out. We are sending STDs for our wedding though in holiday cards. Our wedding is nov 12, 2006 so we are sending them 11 months in advance.

I'd use word of mouth to let people know about your engagement party. I don't think STDs are necessary. We had a very informal engagement party with just parents and our friends. My FIL hosted the party and they sent the invitations out about 1 month before. We told people to keep the date open a month or two before the invitations were mailed out. I don't remember when we sent the STDs out for the wedding, but it was probably 7-9 months before the wedding.

I didn't send out STD's for our e-party. But we're getting married in June '06 and sending out or wedding STD's right after Christmas (so they don't get lost in the mail!)

i wouldn't send them out for an engagement party. i sent out my wedding STD's 8-9 months in advance. but i did mine pretty early because my wedding is a week before Christmas.
