What did you put in at first?

Kiera is 5 1/2 months and I think I'd like to get her started soon on them.

With Luke I didnt give him one till around 10 months. I didnt even think to offer it sooner. With Tara I gave it to her around 5 or 6 months and shes like an old pro already (8 1/2 months) - its so cute to see them drink out of the sippy so little.

I started Emily at 5 months. She gets water after dinner. I only give her about two oz. I am using the Avent sippy cup, but I wonder if there is a better sippy cup out there???

Around 8 months. We tried to put juice but he hated it so we put water instead!

I started Andrew on a sippy cup at 5 or 6 months. He is a breastfed baby, so the pedi said there was no reason for him to have a bottle. We started it with water, and now I am putting in breastmilk so he'll drink from the cup and wean himself. Next month we move to whole milk!

Wanted to add that my favorite of all the sippy cups we've tried (and that's a lot!) is the ones made by Nuby with the silicone tops. Here it is:

The Avent sippys are such a PITA. All those parts and the little rubber disk was always getting misplaced. We used Playtex insulated ones and I have found those to be the best of all the sippys Ive tried

Thank you, I'll have to try them.

I'm going to let Kiera try it. She gets prune juice every now & then so the next time I give it to her I'll use the cup.

Jack is 5 1/2 months and I started giving him a little water after he eats. He's getting the hang of it!

Wow, you guys are really on the ball! Andrew is 12 months and doesn't like the sippy cup! Any suggestions on how to get him to like it?

Re: When do you start using sippy cups?

SOmeone in Parents magazine just wrote about your same problem. They suggested to give very little in the bottle so that when he finishes it he will definately want more and tell him that you can only give him more in his sippy cup. If he wants it bad enough he will take the sippy. Slowly wean him that way.

They also suggested cold turkey. Just take the bottles away. It may be a little hard at first but as with the other suggestion his appetite will force him to use the sippy and eventually he will forget about his bottles
