When do you stop calling a female a girl and start calling her a woman?

When do you stop calling a female a girl and start calling her a woman?

I have been thinking about this recently and can't seem to find a pattern with myself, so I am wondering what you all do.

At what point do you stop calling a female a girl and start calling her a woman?

After marriage? After children? After she moves out of her parents' home? At a certain age? After some other rite of passage?

I pretty much call everyone a 'girl' - married or not, kids or not - until they are in their late 30's early 40's. People often say to me, 'she's not a girl, she's a woman!'

This is terrible, but I'm so shallow, I just go according to looks - which in my case is sooo annoying - because I look like a GIRL!!! I've said that I'm never, ever going to actually look like a woman - I'm going to go straight from looking like a little girl to an old woman!

For me it totally depends on who it is ...

When she stops using other peoples personalities and beliefs as a platform to work out her own issues or to show off how hip, PC, intelligent, magnanimous she is...

or when a girl starts carrying a sensible handbag...

Of course! Also, part of me really believes I won't be a grown-@ss woman until I can pull a sheet of saran wrap out of the box without getting it all mangled and stuck to itself.
