When does the 'PARTY' begin?

My FH and I are not seeing eye to eye on music at all. We have a string trio booked for the ceremony (he fought on that) and a guitarist/singer (not my cup of tea, but he likes it) for the CH and switching off with the DJ during the reception.

FH insists that cocktail hour is where the party gets started and that it shouldn't be 'background' music. I can only imagine some people with their plates of food and others trying to dance all in one small place!!!

I need to ask what you ladies think!!!! Please be honest. Am I out of my mind when I state that the CH is supposed to be low-key? I've been to many weddings with no music at all.

TIA!!!

When does the

Personally, I think CH is low key. I think you can still do the guitarist/singer for CH, just advise him to keep his choices low key. Even the string trio would work during cocktail hour too.

When does the

Yeah cocktail hours have usually been low key in my experience. I've never heard loud music or seen anyone dancing at CH. I've also been to weddings that had no music at all during cocktail hour. I think the party starts at the reception

I agree - CH is low key so people can chat and mingle. Reception is definitely where the party begins.

Re: When does the 'PARTY' begin?

definitely starts when you get announced and come in!

for our cocktail hour, we chose popular upbeat songs.. (honestly, most people dont hear it because they are eating and drinking with their friends anyway.) but i didnt want just love songs, so i chose pop/hip hop songs with a love theme, if you will lol

When does the

I agree with everyone! You can't start too early because then everyone will be partied out by the end. The CH is low key and the party will start at the reception after you guys are announced!

When does the

I understand what your FH means if I can play devils advocate for minute. The party starts at the reception yes, but I don't want slow sleepy background music during cocktail hour because I want my guests pumped and ready to party at the reception. Therefore, I think I'm going to have my DJ play sing a long popular songs (not that everyone has to actually sing) but if they are put in a good mood from it, they will be ready for a great time! Song examples...Piano Man, Sweet Caroline, etc Songs everyone knows.

Re: When does the 'PARTY' begin?

I TOTALLY agree!!!!! Those are some of the songs that actually named lol. You aren't even devil's advocate! I want our guests to REALIZE that there is music and enjoy it, otherwise we wouldn't pay for it. Just not the highlight of the CH
