When addressing invitations to a husband and wife who are both Ph.D.s or both medical doctors and who share a surname, use either “Drs. Boyer” (eliminating first names) or “Dr. Gene Boyer and Dr. Sally Boyer,” written on the same line.

We did Doctors John and Jane Doe, because we had two Does, and we didn't want to do The Doctors Doe, because there would be two of them.

Looks like you got your answer! But just to concur... we have a few doctor situations and will do as follows.

Dr. and Mrs. John Doe

The Doctors Doe or Drs. John and Jane Doe

and we have no wife only doctors so I would not know how to do that one.

You can go either way:

Dr. John Doe and Dr. Jane Doe

OR

Drs. John and Jane Doe

Both are self explanatory and acknowledging.
