I think it should be like 3 months before...

For me.., the holidays are right before the wedding so I told my sis to try to do it before like November or something b/c Holidays bang people out.

ETA; ok i realized we have close dates...so you may want to give whoever is doing the shower a heads up...for the holidays

Re: when is it to early for a shower

I was talking to my sister (MOH) yesterday about this, she wants to have it by October since after that people are overwhelmed with the holidays I thought it was kinda early but I think people would rather have it before then to have to deal with it during the holidays

Mine was 6 months before my wedding. My mom really wanted it to be a surprise.

i think it's fine!
i'm getting married in March and my family is getting annoyed that they havent been told when the shower will be yet, b/c i think it's normally like 3 months before... that might be a little early, but not unusually early you know?
the plans that i seem to be hearing, are making mine fall smack dab in the middle of the holidays!

where's my invite??

From bridalshower.com:
'Planning Timeline
Bridal Shower Planning

Six weeks before the wedding is the ideal time have a shower. You'll need about eight weeks to plan a formal shower. So if the wedding is a little over 3 months from now and you're here, then you are right on time! If the wedding is more then three months away, then take your time now and develop your strategy and attack plan. Start to discuss timing with the bride. Be sure to mark your calendar 2 months before the date to give yourself enough time to arrange the shower.

If the wedding is less than three months away, then get started right now by talking with the bride. Find out when she would like to have her shower and establish the shower's gift theme.'

~But I think that in your case it's totally reasonable to have the shower before the holidays, you're guests will be relieved bc ol st nic makes ppl go crazy around dec~

i like this answer from bridalguide.com:

'What's proper timing for the bridal shower?

Q:
My sister is planning my bridal shower six months before the wedding date, and my future mother-in-law is annoyed. She claims it's improper etiquette, and that the shower should be held four to six weeks before the wedding. Who's right?

A:
There's really no right or wrong in this case. Even though tradition dictates that a bridal shower should be held two months to two weeks before the wedding, I don't see any reason why it can't be planned before the two-month mark.

While having a shower six months before the wedding may not be improper, it does seem a bit early for practical reasons. For one thing, you and your fiancé need to have the guest list determined and your wedding invitations sent out before people receive their bridal shower invitations. And all those invited to the bridal shower should be on your wedding guest list as well.

If you do have an early shower, make sure you and your groom complete your gift registries first. Most bridal-shower invitees want to know where you're registered, and this list is usually included with the shower invitations. If by some chance you've already mailed your wedding invitations and completed your registries, then it's feasible to have the shower six months before your wedding. If not, perhaps your sister can schedule it closer to the big day.'
