When is the money for honeymoon due?

I wasn't really including the honeymoon in our budget because I thought it could be put on a credit card and paid for after the wedding--at least the hotel portion of the trip. The rest of it I'm treating as money that we need to have by the date of the wedding. FI says this is only the case if we book the trip online where they will charge our cards upon checkout. But if we use a travel agent, which we want to do, the money will be due upon booking the honeymoon. So, is he right? Thanks!

we had to put a deposit down when we booked it, and then the remainder we put on a credit card a month before we went. so the bill didn't come in until after we returned from the honeymoon
we booked with a travel agent in person, not online
