Just wondering if there is a popular month or season? My dad seems to think we'd get a better deal if we bought in winter. Is there any truth to this?

spring is the hottest selling season because lots of families try to coordinate moves with the school calendar.
off season one can expect to get better deals, but there is less inventory... we wanted to snag something in the winter but wound up finding something in the spring and had to pay up a bit.

We're holding off really looking until December/January for this reason. We're hoping that we'll be able to find something then but I have heard that inventory is very low. But, most of the time if people put their house on the market then, they really need to sell it so you have better negotiating power.

We bought in Sept, right after the spring/summer rush and I still found enough inventory.

Well DH and I started looking in January ...didn't find much of anything...we're in contract now with a home, and laid eyes on the place on July 1st .... so it takes a while to find something u really like

I can tell you that a TON of houses go up for sale at the end of the school year so the peopple with kids can settle in new houses before the new school year.

in the spring and summer. More people have off. People that have children want to move before the school year starts.

we started looking in january....found ours in April...and closed the end of June....took possession mid July....due to move in October. OH BOY!

We put in a successful bid on a house on March 5th, closed on May 12th.....not sure if we are considered Spring or Winter buyers.....but think we got a great deal, Western Nassau County (25min to NYC via LIRR), under 400K and locked in at 5.875.......think its just the luck of the draw, how quickly the owner wants to move and getting a good mortgage broker that wont screw you in the end....
