When should I ask for RSVPs?

When should I ask for RSVPs?

Our wedding date is July 30--when should I ask for the 'favour of a reply'? I was thinking June 1--we're sending the invites out at the end of April, beginning of May. This way, I can get a sense of how many people we'll have, how many OOT bags I need to make, etc. Is that too soon? Should it be June 15 instead? June 30? Thanks!

Our RSVP was Oct 1st for our Nov 5th wedding. I think June 1 might be too early

jennie - you may be able to push it to 6 weeks in advance (june 15) but any further and i think you might get ALOT of no-responses - people afraid to commit too early, forgetting...etc.

I asked for June 20th. That's 5 weeks before the wedding.

Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it, since the wedding is on July 30, some people might get confused if I put June 30 on the RSVP, thinking that it's actually July--hopefully, they wouldn't but maybe making it either July 1 (of course, then there are problems with people forgetting to send them because of the July 4th weekend!) or maybe June 20 is the way to go--thanks!

I was thinking about June 30th too. But people are lazy. They'll forget to send responses back.
So I said 'lets do June 20th. I'll call whoever hasn't replied and I'll know for sure who's coming and who isn't by June 30th'.

Hope that helps.

I also have a ton of OOT guests. I did June 20th too. I am having a brunch the next morning and want to send out invites for that and will need to know who is coming to the wedding first.

I set my RSVP date for May 15 for my July 3 wedding.

I figured most people would know if they are coming to my wedding or not, especially since I have a couple of OOT guests. Is this too early? I have a second round of cards made up for June 1 in case I get a couple of no.

If you have a lot of OOT guests I think its okay to put an earlier RSVP date because they will have to make hotel arrangements, book flights, etc. Therefore they will definetly know if they are coming to your wedding before June 30 (at least I would hope they would no).

What's more important than our wedding that people can't commit to it? That way if they get invited to something else they can say 'I already have plans'.

ETA: Of course, this is my opinion and not what 'etiquette' says.

It should be 4-6 weeks max before your reception.

Mine is week before yours and my RSVP date is June 18th. You got me scared when you said you were sending yours out at the end of April. We're not doing it until May 21.
