I'm over a year away from my wedding but feel like I can't start on the little things (card box, and all the little details) until I know what color the dresses will be. I'm thinking cranberry-ish but a lot of the dresses I like don't come in that color so I may have to change it a bit.
I'm confused. LoL

Re: When should I pick my bridesmaid dresses?
I guess you can really pick it as early as you want, but you still have a few months to get them ordered. I would get started by picking a designer, color, and material that you're pretty sure you'll go with.

If it takes you as long as the its taking me, I'd start looking online now. And then maybe go to a store to start this fall or winter

You can definitely start looking now and going to try on with your girls. I don't think you need to actually place orders until about 4-6 months before.

Re: When should I pick my bridesmaid dresses?
me and my girls have started the online hunt for dresses and all figured as long as they are ordered by feb/march we will be good.
we planned that after Christmas we will start actually going to try on dresses, unless we find something at an awesome price before hand.

Re: When should I pick my bridesmaid dresses?
Thanks ladies, I've been looking online already. I just didnt want to walk into a store and have them tell me it's too early. Then again, it's $$ for them. Maybe I'll take my MOH's out looking one day.

4 months is tight. I would give it the full six months. In almost every bridal party there is a problem with someone (they put on weight and can't fit in the dress, they get pregnant, the store messes up the order, the manufacturer sends the wrong size, etc). BM dress designers take a ridiculous amount of time to do anything, you need to give them extra time for corrections.

I felt exactly the same way. I bought my dress at Macy's so what they let me do is I already picked out my bridesmaid dress and I only had one BM pay in full. This will hold the price and the dress. I told the girls that they have to get measured and pay at the 6-8 month mark. The only way they will HAVE to buy it earlier is if the designer decides to discontinue my dress. Then they will make us place the order before they stop making it.
So now I have my colors but the girls did not have to get fitted yet!! HTH
