When should I start looking....

for an apartment if I get married in July?? How long does the process usual take?

hmmmm....we're going to start in May, because we want to be moved in by September, when FH starts teaching again.

What kind of apartment are you looking for? SOmething in a complex or house?

If a complex I would start a few months before, they usually do a credit check,etc. and you can give them the date you would like to move in.

If in a house I would start end of may beginning of july, people usually give 30 days notice in home apartments-usually

I think you should start in as soon as the weather breaks. Let's say in the end of March beginning of May.

Depending on where you are looking, an apartment complex or a house apartment. If you are looking at an apartment complex, I would give them a call in May just to see if they know of any available apartments in July. Sometimes people give notice that they are not re-signing their lease a couple of months in advance.

I would start close to your anticipated move in date. maybe about a month before. If you go through a realtor they won't want to be bothered showing you apartments if you aren't ready to move in. But I would start researching a few months before. I'd look on craigslist.

I would actually do it before that. Four months to look, buy and wait for a closing might not be enough, unless you get lucky and find something right away. Just looking for a place can take a few months. THen after you find the place you want it will take about 3 months to wait for a closing date and get everything else done before that for the closing. There are some mortgage companies who take even longer than that. The one I used was very quick, even the lawyer commented on that and it took about 3 months.

NOW!!!!! It took me FOREVER and a day to close on our house in october... I dont know if you remember but i'd post every other day saying TODAY WE'RE CLOSING! and then the following day we didnt.. The application process took FOREVER. After we were approved, it was only a couple weeks until the closing date but they put it on rush bc of how long the approval process took. On top of all this, we didnt even SEARCH.. we bought FH's mom's house so we werent hunting. The hunting alone takes a very very long time... Defiatly start now mil... What areas are you interested in?

k Im an assssho. I just realized you said Apt, not house Sawwy!!!! Totally different ballpark!!! I think you still should be looking currently. But as far as gettin an apt. and moving it, typically it can happen QUICK, or up to 1 or 2 months...

...trust me I would love a house..and we were thinking about it, but def. not for us right now.

we thought we should start looking in feb, but that was way too early.

if u want to move in say in June- then i would start looking mid april to early may.
