When should I workout?

When should I workout?

I work out after work in the evening. For the past few years I have been eating (light dinners) as soon as I get home and then work out around 8pm.

Recently I was thinking about changing things and working out as soon as I get home and eating afterwards. I thought this would give me more time with FI and he wont have to eat so early.

Is it bad to eat dinner around 7-7:30? Now, I never eat after 7...at least not during the week...but i go to bed starving.

Also I am sometimes hungry when I get home....is there anything i can eat right before I run to give me the energy I need?

I usually don't eat dinners and have snacks at home a bit late... but I don't think eating late is a good practice, so I try my best not to snack too much...

I workout when I get home from work at around 5:30. I usually will eat a late lunch, like at around 3:30 so that I'm not starving when I get home (I eat a lot of snacks during the day to keep me going). If I am hungry when I get home, I'll eat a small handful of crackers with some peanut butter.
Then after working out, I eat a small dinner at around 7:00.

Doing this isn't bad at all - you need to eat something after you workout to refuel your body. You don't need to eat a full dinner; just eat something light - a combo of good carbs (complex carbs) and protein. Remember that your body burns calories for a couple of hours after you workout

We go to the gym at night from 8:30-10 and then eat... I find I'm not usually as hungry after I work out!

You can eat whenever you want, it doesn't make a difference.

What does make a difference is not eating an hour or two before working out. You will get less out of your workout if your body isn't freshly fueled.

Another thing that makes a difference is that if you wait until you're starving later at night, you're more likely to eat more and/or be less mindful of what you eat.

So, before you work out, just make sure you eat a decent snack (a pb&j on wheat, an apple w/pb, some bean soup or other bean item, a half a pita w/some hummus, a glass of milk with a granola bar, yogurt, or a handful of nuts) an hour or two b/f the gym. Then you can eat a lite dinner later.
