when should we...

send out our invitations? We are having our wedding on Sept 4, 2011. I think because its a holiday weekend we should send them out earlier than normal, FH thinks 6 months should suffice...

I'm getting married Sept. 2 and we are sending our save the dates next week. I would send them out asap, but 6 months for the invitations is good.

That's really early IMO even for a holiday. We sent out our STDs 11 months prior but invites we'll do 3 months prior.

we have also put into consideration that not only is it a holiday weekend, but the last weekend before school starts...some people plan vacations and such...i'm just worried that if we dont send them out early enough that we will lose alot of our guests.

ITA with this. 6 months is WAY too far in advance. People will lose the invite/forget to come.

How far in advance should you send wedding invitations? What is the proper date to ask for the reply card?

A. Ideally, invitations should go out six weeks before the wedding -- that gives guests plenty of time to clear their schedules for the day and make travel arrangements if they are out-of-towners. It also lets you make the RSVP date a little earlier -- say three weeks before the wedding date -- so you can get a final head count and start making a seating chart (if you'll have one) before the final-week-before-the-wedding crunch begins. At the very latest, guests should receive wedding invitations six weeks in advance, and you should get responses back two weeks before the big day.
