Re: When should you do your fittings?
i always heard that they only start them a few months before the wedding, so for you I would assume July/August

I haven't even thought of that. 2-3 months seems to be cutting it close. Maybe 6-9 months instead.

I know your anxious to try on your dress again! But id wait until a couple months before the wedding, this was something I was pretty surprised about too. I am in a wedding this July and I think she is going for her first fitting at the end of May.

I think you should wait until 2 months before your wedding...stress can do crazy things to a body, you could lose or gain weight and you want to do it as close to the date as you can so you can be sure that it fits well...esp if you have a strapless dress, you don't want to have to be hiking it up all night!

Re: When should you do your fittings?
Where I got my dress (POB in Roslyn), they said that they won't start with the fittings til 5-6 months before the wedding and I will probably need about 3 fittings - so...I have to wait til November But, I am having some additional work done to my dress (added poofiness on the bottom, buttons all the way down the back of the dress, and added length) - so the first fitting will be all of that stuff...

Re: When should you do your fittings?
I just asked my mom b/c I get to see my dress in December. You start your fittings typically 6-9 months before the wedding depending on how detailed your dress is. Thats what the girl told her at the bridal salon. My dress is super form fitting, so I will need to start my fittings early to ensure a maximim fit! And than like the week before the wedding, I can't eat.

ive never really heard of anyone going that early. Usually fittings start 6-8 weeks before the wedding. I personally wouldn't start it before that.

are you sure they didnt say 6-9 weeks before? bc to start alterations 6-9 months before is VERY VERY early, bridal salons want to wait closer to the wedding. Not only that but MOST girls dont have their dress come in that much ahead of time. I went in march of 07 to buy my dress so i went over a year before my wedding to buy my dress, and took a year to come in and came in 2 months before my wedding. I wouldve had to buy a dress in 06 to get it to come in and start alterations that much earlier. I mean most dresses take 6-9 months to make from scratch so alterations shouldn't take as long as it takes to make a dress, no matter how detailed it is.
All my beading was done by hand, when dress came in it was too long and had to be hemmed. Now problem was that i had beading on the bottom of my dress, in order to hem it they had to remove the whole beading on the bottom part and put it back on and it was done in just a few weeks, also with having to take it in. Nothing they can do will take months, someone can make a whole new dress during that time.

Agreed! I know it's so hard waiting though...my dress comes in about 15 weeks from now and the suspense is killing me!

Agreed... I ordered my dress on Friday and they told me that it will arrive sometime in December and that for my April wedding, fitting will begin sometime in February.

Re: When should you do your fittings?
No, I could understand why they would start fittings early. Lets say you order your dress, and it comes in 6 months before...like my situation...if your dress is heavily detailed, you would want the seamstress to have enough time to alter it without doing a rushed job. You wouldn't have to keep going back every week, and for the simple fact that this won't be a rushed job, at least the dress will be perfect :) Also, the month before your wedding is going to be EXTREMELY hectic, and to lift the anxiety off your shoulders, you should have most of the alterations completed. The only thing that should be left is maybe a little taking in but that should be it.
Again, this is strictly up to you. I personally will begin the alteration process at the 6 month start. I want that dress to be altered to perfection, esp. if I payed all that money. I don't like to be rushed and I certainly don't like rushed jobs.
